I have the 1st gen Blackvue, it has GPS capability and a micro SD slot, the maximum size it supports is up to 16GB, which is good for a few days worth of recording. It has a known overheating issue but in my experience it only happens during hot summer days, and even then it only causes purplish lines to appear on playback. Overall it is good product and gives piece of mind. I don't know if it comes in other colors than silver but I painted mine black with plastidip to give it a more stealthy appearance.

I have tried out 3 dashcams, Blackvue, one from Taiwan that isn't sold here in the US, and most recently the Lukas 7900. Out of the 3, the Lukas is the one I prefer due to it's higher heat tolerance. I don't have one on the ISF, but it is installed on the other car since it's parked outside.
The Blackvue would overheat on summer days and result in "static" in the movie clips and not turn on at times. The Taiwan one was a pain to keep attaching/detaching via suction cup to the windshield when parked and blocks the view quite a bit, but it recorded well enough. The Lukas one is small enough to mount behind the rear view mirror and the picture quality is high enough. It has a G sensor to record 30 seconds on high-G scenarios when driving or when parked, time-date-speed can be recorded on the movieclips, but most of all, it is reliable after 7 months. Meaning, even not reformatting the SD card (recommended weekly), it still records fine months after and has never "failed" to record unlike the Blackvue. Picture quality is similar to other $200 1080 dashcams, but those depend on the conditions (lighting, placement of camera, settings, etc.)

Looks like a major player is finally entering the US dash cam market:

Another vote for the Lukas 7900 - I've been really pleased with mine. They are frequently sold on ebay/amazon. They dont have the overheating issues the blackvue have - and will support up to 128GB SD cards.

I have a FineVu CR500-HD in my daily driver, and considering putting one in the ISF.
Captured this @$$h0le taking a **** in my apartment carpark. Even rubbed his nose afterwards without washing his hands .
I purchased from Alex at BlackBoxMyCar.com . He is based in Canada.

It has shock sensor, motion sensor, 1080P HD, can take up to a 32GB micro SD card, GPS unit is seperate and does not have any overheating issues. I live in Australia and the cam has seen a 47 degree celsius day parked in the sun and no issues at all.
However I have had this cam for quite a while and the internal Li-ion battery is not holding charge anymore so I am replacing it with a $7.50 battery ordered off eBay. Best investment I have ever made as it has captured some funny moments, idiots who cannot drive and potential thieves.

How big is the FineVu CR500-HD? can it be easily hidden behind the rear view mirror? Like the Blackvue?

Pretty small and easily hides behind the rear view mirror. I put black tape on all the logo's and branding so the cam is completely black in colour. You cannot really spot it unless you are looking for it. In an underground car park you would be hard pressed to spot it at all.
