Hmmm...could this be the next issue with the car after the 08 Waterpump fiasco?

Pretty suprised this happened on a 2012. I'm at 40k on the clock right now.
The smell of hot antifreeze is unmistakable, should have been horrendous and would have been the first sign of something starting to leak.

Glad you got it fixed before disaster struck.

Waterpump leak is no big deal with the F to LEXUS. It's a common issue and majority of the F owners have gone through it and had it replaced. LEXUS never bothered to put out a TSIB or any service bulletins regarding about this faulty issue.

There's no reason to. TSIBs are for procedures not found in the FSM. Replacing the water pump is definitely in the FSM, and not all water pumps failed under warranty - or at least not enough to make Lexus worried about replacing a whole lot of 2UR-GSEs. The entire UR series of engines use this same pump, so many models were affected. They just updated the parts and replaced as owners noticed the failures. Basically, Aisin just screwed up on these.

The 2GR-FSE cam sprocket replacement was a TSIB because the procedure was a bit buried in the FSM, and they wanted to track it carefully. The fact they went through five iterations of cam sprocket designs also indicates there was more to the problem than meets the eye.
