The wear sensor is for Mercedes AMG applications. We do not have this type of wear sensor on our cars, so it isn't necessary. The pads will fit and they will work, but you lose a little bit of pad to the slot for the wear sensor unnecessarily.

The one with the notch takes an Electronic Wear sensor that snaps into the pad / backing plate..
(Used on the Mercedes application - 2nd illustration photo)
The 1st illustration photo shows a basic wear sensor tab that screams bloody hell when your pads get too low..
That should clarify everything now..!!
