Default YES another Header/ Inspection question

Hello my fello CL ISF owners,

Now before anyone tells me to "do a search" let me say if I had the time to sift through all the search results until I found my answer that would be a wonderful life- but I dont and the search is not that well refined that it is that accurate in its results.

SO having said that - thanks in advance for the insight to those WITH first hand knowledge about this.

So those that actually have headers and have state emission insections here is my question:

Does or will the F pass the emission inspection (with the sniffer) with the first set of cats gone due to the header install?

Why? I want to get headers but dont want to eventually fail NYS inspection because my first set of cats are gone.
I have an axle back exhaust now and just wanted to add the sikky headers to the system but dont wanna risk failing inspection at any time.

With the secondary cats still in place and the o2 simulators installed, you should not fail the sniffer. Visual, yes, if the inspector knows what he, she is doing, but you should be clean with the sniffer.

you should pass except visual if the tech knows that your car suppose to have 2 cats instead of one. i know some doesn't even bother checking and just plug the OBDII scanner and if you don't have a check engine light then your good and they will pass you. since you only have an axleback you should be good but it all depends on the tech doing the inspection.

I didn't pass tx inspection. No codes on dash but when they plugged in the obdII, I had two "not ready"s come up. Not sure if that is specific to my car or if its normal.

^^^^I just read your thread below. I have an OBD Scanner. I also have PPE headers, o2 simulators, Hi-Flow cats and a modified exhaust. Nothing's stock on my exhaust system except the mufflers, and they're modified. When I plug in my OBD scanner, I get no codes. Your thread below does not detail your exhaust system, except to say you have have headers. What else comprises your system? How did you finally solve your issue.

Ive got Sikky Headers, Borla Cat Back....I couldn't get the O2 Sens and O2 Sens Htr read "ready". IN Tx if you have 2 or more "not ready" then no pass. I assumed it had something to do w/ the 02 sensor by-pass. But, that is just a wild **** guess as I don't know much about that stuff.

I live in New York, Westchester County I have PPE headers with Joe Z exhaust and I had my car inspected few months ago and it passed why in New York your car is connected to OBD port there is no sniffer test unless your driving car that is was built prior to 1996. OBD is a required emissions test for applicable vehicles. ... in the design of all model year 1996 and newer light-duty cars and trucks. With PPE Headers you get o2 simulators which will further help you pass inspection Sikky headers also comes with o2 simulators.

The only visual inspection you will receive is safety inspection which includes tires, headlights, brake lights, turn signals, wipers, windshield. They are not going to put your car on lift to inspect your exhaust system looking to see if you have cats or not. Now if you show up blowing smoke out of your exhaust you will not pass they will tell you don't even bother inspecting your car until you get it fixed or if your car sounds like the muffler fell off same thing it's common sense stuff if you show up with brake lights not working they won't pass you it same thing.

Now if your still concerned about not having primary cats on, just install a set of Hi-Flow cat you will lose some HP but will solve your concerns of having no cats and you car will be greener.

I have headers, full exhaust with cat cases welded in my X pipe that are hollowed out so i can pass visual and OBDII scanner has no codes / all readiness are set because of the simulator. But it will prob fail a sniffer because the actual carbon levels and temps are so much higher than factory. Why do you have to do a sniffer test if you have a simulator and you pass a visual inspection? It shouldn't even be necessary.
