The power for the HID ballast comes from the same wite that powers the headlight so there is no connection needed to the battery. (but disconnect the battery whenever doing electrical work on a car) I got mine a long time ago so there were no kits that could just plug right in - now a days they have the ones that have a harness tht should just plug right into your stock headlight plug to make install easier, the HID KITS now also come with 3M doublesided tape already so no need to get any but mounting it in an 97-2001 ES300 is a pain cause there is almost no where to put it that is a flat surface except the area underneath the headlight (which is where I put mine)... so yes I needed to remove the headlight...but to install I did need to remove it anyway to mount the relays that came with my kit...but again I did this in like 2001 or something so kit have been made easier today ( i just did one in a friends Scion TC and it was all plug right in...still had to move stuff to mount the ballast tho)
it took me about 2 hrs...but thats why I put that post up so people could know how to take the ES300 lights out...
someone with no knowledge at all ...hmm I would say it depends how innovative you are at learning stuff about cars and wiring...but if you are a total none mechanical person that basically just "doesnt get it" no matter what..and just dont have the "nack" for this kind of stuff...I wouldnt suggest it....have someone do it for you

Just curios, but for your instll of HID'S on your es did you have to disconnect the batter or is there a wire with the hid kit that will screw right in? Also did you have to remove the headlight and if i have a 3d adhesive or what ever it is called, can i just use that to mount the ballast ect. somewhere else in the car? O and another question, how long did it take and do you think someone with almost no mechanical knowledge could do this?
