Hey, it's getting colder here in Chicago and EVERY winter for the last three or four years I notice I get a squeak. It's finally has gotten to me so armed with some black felt, I went searching for it.

I think I found the parts that were rubbing causing the squeak. It's actually the black plastic frame rubbing on the clear plastic in front of the instrument cluster. If you gently press on it, I hear this squeak, squeak, squeak. The problem is, how do I go about stopping it?

Just to verify, I put just a small amount of windex on the part that seemed to be rubbing and voila! My squeak went away - but I know tomorrow when the sun comes up, I'll have my squeak back.

Anybody else have this? Solutions?

I was actually thinking of putting a VERY small dab of oil right on that one little contact point so the friction wouldn't cause it to squeak anymore.

I have had this same issue for 15,000 miles. It's very annoying. I found if I push hard in the left hand cornor it will go away for that time of driving but back the next day. One of these days I will pop the dash off and fix it.. The Lexus tech that I'm good friends with said he would replace it. Just don't feel like driving 1 1/2 hours over a squeak lol

Maybe this weekend I'll pop it off. I'll be sure to post what I do.

You can use the felt you got and stuff it up between the clear plastic piece and the black plastic bezel

I did it with tissue paper and it went away lol

I had the same issue a few years ago. Took it to the dealer and they took care of it. I absolutely hate squeaks and rattles in any car.

i had the same issue, i just got some felt tap and put some around the instrument cluster

omg yes.. finally, i've taken my car to the dealer numerous times to report this but they never fixed it. Guess I'll have to do it myself.

Good to know this. But for me this has been the only car I've every owned that has not had rattles or weird S going on. I have an 08 w/ 65k miles on it too!

Well great the squeak came back. At the dealership now to get headlights adjusted up and asked them if they would fix the squeak that came back. Car is out of warranty and if they choose not to fix it for free i'll be picking up some felt and doing it myself.

that's funny. im 10 mins from chicago too and soon as it hit 30's my cluster began to squeek and omg im ready to pull my hair out. I am going to try your random magic and see how this goes lol

Squeak fixed. I removed the trim piece and applied thin felt strips to all contact areas around it.

There are 4 screws holding the cluster trim piece in place. Two at the top and two below. The ones at the top are easy to remove and are actually screw clips and the two below are actual metal screws.

Yup I just jammed a black piece of folded up paper between dash and gauge cluster bezel right above the steering wheel just keeps the two pieces from rubbing that's my cheap fix lol
