Default Common HID Problem with all IS's?

Hi Guys,

Been reading a bit about people having problems with the HID's. My drivers side was doing some weird stuff tonight... It would turn on initially but not stay on more than about 1 minute before it would just shut off. To me this would mean that this is not a bulb but more of a ballast problem or unlikely a wire problem.

Does anyone have the TSRM or EWD specs so I can check the resistance values that are supposed to be on the ballast so I can know if I need a replacement?

Also another strange thing is my Air bag lights come on once in a while.. The other day after dropping off my girlfriend I noticed it came on after restarting the car and I tried turning off the car for about 30 seconds and turning it back on but it would not go off... the next day it was fine and it's been fine for a few weeks until tonight I had the same problem again after dropping off my girl friend.

Seems to be long trips make it come on? Any suggestions on troubleshooting this? I don't have a ODB2 scanner with me at the moment but I'll be sure to hook it up next time I have it handy.

Thanks,

Have you done any electrical mods? If you haven't, you really need to have the problem diagnosed with Techstream. Airbag issues are very serious - if they deploy accidentally at the wrong time, you could be seriously injured or killed. As much as I work on my own stuff, if I had the airbag light coming on, I'd be either at the dealer or an independent with a Techstream tool to find out exactly what is wrong as quickly as possible.

The HID issue sounds like the ballast is overheating and shutting down from thermal distress.

Car has ZERO mods so far... so nothing at all...

See the air bag lights have gone out again and haven't been back since that last trip.. I guess I have to have it scanned... So the techstream is better than I ODB2 scanner I take it and gives more info?

About that head light, how often have you hear of the F's ballast's going out?

My passenger side headlight has been randomly shutting off / not turning on, and the dealership told me the bulb was going out. Car is 100% stock w/ 58k miles, just ordered new bulbs online so hoping it isn't another issue.

Are you still under warranty? I had my ballast replaced after having similar issue.

I recently bought one that had a similar issue on passenger side headlamp. I pulled the bulb and found a white cloudy spot that indicates a bad bulb. Replaced the set and have had no issues since.

Default Hid

Never seen an IS with an airbag problem that hadn't been involved in a collision before. Our shop has a TIS Techstream, as well as a ultrascan pro, and an el cheapo OTC Genesis, and frankly any one of these will do an equally good job in obtaining the information on the airbag. My advice would be too look for a quality Indy shop if the cars not still under warranty. As far as the hid lights we have seen several hid light bulbs fail in Lexus vehicles including my own F 's left front headlight. If its und warranty still they will replace it for free, if not the bulb is around 150+ $ from Lexus if I remember correctly. If not under warranty, I would purchase some from a reputable supplier of Philips hid bulbs online, significantly cheaper than the Lexus part, but the same part none the less.

Same thing happened to me. I changed the bulb and it hasn't done it since. Just do a double check and switch your driver side's bulb with your passenger side's bulb. This will tell you whether it's the bulb or the ballast.

I am having a differant HID problem and I'm wondering if anyone has had my experience.
My girlfriend said my left headlight was flickering when I was following her at dusk. I had someone else drive my car and I watched my headlights. It had the appearance of the right and left bulb being different colors/brands as well as flickering. I inspected the bulbs today and they are the OEM bulbs, both sides. I did notice that the left assembly feels much looser in the housing then the right side. My AFS system seems to be functioning correctly. Has anyone had the same experience with a loose AFS low beam assembly?

^ not sure about the fitment, but it's most likely the light bulb. my bro had an exact same issue. headlight flickering, and each side with different color (one that is going out eventually turned to pink). problem solved after we replaced the headlight bulbs.

i have somewhat similar issue with the op.. hopefully it's just the light bulb as well..

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the feed back... The car is out of warranty, it had a warranty until 100k miles however, since the warranty's don't transfer to new owners it stopped pretty much the day i bought the car, since it had 58,000 miles on it. It has a clean car fax and it's a local car, although the dealer ship said the bumper was repainted when I discovered some of the clear coat pealing. They did repaint it for me under warranty though since corrosion warranty is for 5 or 6 years or something like that.

I ended up purchasing a Philips D4S bulb from Amazon to replace the one on my car because when it does light up it looks like a different colour more purplish. I'm pretty sure it's the bulb from what I seen online but all the plastic mumbo jumbo that blocks access to the head light assembly has stopped me from checking quickly.

I plan on changing it tomorrow... Fingers crossed hoping that's all that's wrong.

Seriously, though I'm finding it hard to love my F to be honest.... It's no supra that's for sure and man did I love my mk4. I know it's a different car but still I've been on the fence about selling it and getting a GT-R / 370Z / 335Is...

I miss manual the most I think.

This might be a stupid simple answer, but I want to make sure before I mess anything up - does anyone have a link to a tutorial for replacing the HID bulb in the IS-F? Through searching I keep coming up with LED swaps or IS350 HID conversions, not sure if I am just searching the wrong terms or what? Any help is appreciated.
