Yep yep.. I'm sure there are MANY people awaiting an available tune for the F ECU.
If it were only as simple as cracking Bosch it would have been done years ago. I have a very good friend who has a degree in computer engineering for embedded systems. If you've bought a tune from APR, you know his work. He spent 3 years trying to crack the Scion tC ECM and determined it wouldn't happen without completely disassembling the chip through an acid etch process. Sorry, but Toyota really does take security very seriously.
I've been chasing this windmill since the middle 90's. It isn't going to happen.
You obviously know your stuff, so I thought I'd say my piece on this which agrees with you.
APR cracked the 128 bit encryption on the new S4 a few years ago, It took there TEAM of computer engineers quite a long time. I'm sure lobuxracer has even more details on that. and that's just getting past the encryption. just the beginning of tuning.
Tuning the ECM on the IS-F is theoretically possible, but as lobuxracer has said, it's extremely difficult. Toyota is very protective of it's intellectual property.
Point is, what company is going to dump millions of dollars in resources to tune the IS-F? It's not exactly a poorly tuned vehicle. Sure, you might be able to get 10-15 hp out of it, but is that worth it? No one's going to put that much money into tuning a naturally aspirated car.....it's not even close to worth it.
I would love to see a kit with cams with the appropriate tuning. I just don't see anyone investing in making it.
Its a good thing the FRS/BRZ came along, as the D4-S electronics seem identical to the F's, and so many ECU manufacturers are now realising that Direct injection control isnt something that can be brushed to the side, But, ProEfi are the only company who are Dedicated to finding an F based solution for this market. They are also the only company researching VVTIE control. This will indeed open the market for other manufacturers to start looking at other upgrades products such as turbo and charger kits, engine components etc etc
Buying and ISF for development...thats dedication right there..
