Intake sound not as loud sometimes
Hopefully, someone had experience this and can provide me with another perspective of why this happens.
I have noticed that sometimes the sound made by the intake is like the flap stays close because it doesn´t sound as loud as most of the time.
Could it be possible that this is done by the ECU when there is heatsoak? or Because i have an after market drop in element, ECU is adjusting something, or what else could trigger this? I have the stock airbox with an AFE dry drop in.
for instance.......today driving to work got behind a truck that was goin around 5-10 Miles, so I got ready to overtake him.....so im i 1st gear driving slowly at around 5% of throttle at 3800 RMPs above the revs point where the flap opens, but you cant tell if it open because of the little throttle, then i step on the gas, expecting to hear the growl, but instead all i hear a very soft sound like if the flap didn´t opened, and i could be wrong but it also feels with less power.
any ideas?

It doesn't open just based on RPM does it? I'd imagine it's more based on the engine load making it a necessity. Light to mid throttle at even upper rpms may not be enough demand for the flap to open.

It's suppose to open at or above 3k.. but when you close the vacuum line, the second intake remains open so you get they "growl" everytime you step on the gas.. no need to wait for 3k

I'm under the same impression also that it's not just rpm alone but engine load and vacuum pressure.

I was wondering if it got to do with the ECU compensating because i have the AFE drop in air filter instead of the OEM one. I have read posts that said that if you use an after market filter the first days you will see power gains, but after a few days/miles the ECU will compensate and you loose the gains.
My question is then: "how does the ECU compensate to restrict the gain obtained at the beginning? will it be related to the flap, engine ignition timing, other?

Now... can someone help me understand "how does the ECU compensate to restrict the gains obtained at the beginning when using an aftermarket air filter instead of the OEM? "

^^^^AFAIK, it does no such thing. I've been running a Takeda intake with an AFE cone filter for seven years with absolutely no problems. For a year prior to that I ran a JoeZ intake with a K&N filter. I ran the K&N for three months prior to the JoeZ addition. Never experienced any power restriction.
