Hello '08 F owners, I recieved a phone call today from my lexus dealer wanting to buy my '08 pearl white F because they said that the 08 was in demand. I was wondering did any '08 owners recieved the same phone call? and if anyone really know the reason why they want to buy my car back?
It's a sales tactic because they want you to buy another car. All the dealerships do this. They call and say they'll pay top dollar because they 'desperately need' that '08 IS-F (sounds even more ridiculous when it's a common car like an '06 IS250...) so you think you are going to get a great deal. In reality, you're getting no greater a deal than if you chose to trade your car in out of your own desire. The difference is they convinced you to make the decision.
definitely a sales tactic that works. some people feel compelled to see what sort of price is being offered by the dealer for a buy back, but most likely it will be less than what you could get if you sold it yourself. the 08 F is in demand, yes, but you have to ask yourself- do you really want to give your F up (probably over half paid off already) for another car, which will entail a new loan, going through the hassles of negotiating with a salesperson, and all that stuff that you originally did just to get your F? personally, i don't think it's worth it. the car has already depreciated so much that by getting another vehicle, the moment you drive the new one off the lot, it depreciates already. so the dealer gets the best of you twice--they get your old car and sales from a new vehicle. no need to look into this
Many people received the same offer (me included). I was offered full MSRP for my 08 ISF. This is how it works:
1. They pay BASE MODEL MSRP, regardless of the options you have, so you'll receive around $56K.
2. From those $56K they will deduct current mileage x $0.35.
3. Now from that new amount they will deduct "wear and tear".
