Default 2010 USB Port in center console question

Ok if its been covered - sorry but yes I searched and cant find answer.

having said that - I plugged a 4GB USB flash to my center console and the radio did not recognize it at all.
Does it have to be a Ipod per say or some kind of MP3 player?

or just a flash card with Mp3's on it and it will just read the thumb drive like its a CD ?

any help is appreciated

it works well on my phone (Windows mobile), although occaisionally i will have to try connecting it several times before it works clickable. I'll go out and try it on a usb stick in a few minutes.

edit: I just tried it with an 8GB usb stick and it worked immediately, although it wouldnt let me play the movie i put on there

just popped in an 8GB USB and it worked huh...Hmm lemme try it again!

OK it was my file system...the flash drive was formatted in NTFS
the car only can read FAT or FAT32 formats

just reformatted it using windows XP - works now

This is a nice feature! - and now flash drives are big so you can fit a bunch of MP3's on them plus it reads much faster than the CD' start up.
