Default Front brake pads

I'm about to do brake service on my IS-F so I have a question for all you guys. Yesterday I visited my local Lexus dealer for fixing (replacing) the rearview mirror (issue explained in another post) and asked about the brake service. I was told that the front brake service costs around $800-$900 and includes brake pads, rotors, and labor. After inspection they said that rotors are not needed, mine are fine, so the service would be around $400-$500. I said that what if I bring my own pads because I don't want the OEM pads, the brake dust is killing me! I was quoted about $200 for labor plus cutting the OEM rotors (and the Lexus warranty for the whole service). I mentioned that I want ceramic pads and that I'd get them myself and come back for the service, BUT (and this is my question) the tech guy told me that they can use the F-Sport front brake pads on my IS-F, they are ceramic and fit the stock IS-F calipers. I searched everywhere and couldn't find any information, is this true? If so I think I'll give them a try.

Thanks.

Unless the f sport for the regular IS are 6 piston then I don't see how that would work. I am at about 14k miles and will need them soon but already have the Hawk HPS ceramic's in the garage waiting.

The F-Sport caliper is indeed 6-piston, so I need to make sure that the pads are a direct replacement for the IS-F caliper.

I've been told that Hawk is re-designing the ceramic IS-F pads because of fitting problems.

WoW... NOW this sounds interesting....

F-Sport Stoptech brake pads fitting into the OEM IS-F Brembo Calipers....

It might be possible, but we won't know until it has be actually tried & tested for fitment & function.

Time to start making some calls....

Yup, Hawk says they are putting a hold on further pad sales for the IS-F because they are redesigning the shims. Something they said they were getting some complaints on, noise or fitment, they weren't real specific.

If anyone wants updates just contact us in the next couple of weeks.

Quick update... yesterday it was confirmed that the F-Sport brake pads DO NOT fit the IS-F Brembo calipers, regardless of both being 6-pistons.

Back on my quest to get ceramic pads, what options do we have now that Hawk put their models on hold?

Ferodo DS2500 were great pads on my STi. No complaints here.

Same here, DS2500s were great on my Evo, but as with the OEM pads brake dust will be an issue.

^^^^ I thought with the ceramics guys were not having the dusting issue as much. Are the Ferodo DS2500 not ceramic, or are they just dustier?

Glad you got that info squared away...
The Stoptech & Brembo Calipers are designed differently.
