Default Tom's GT Shifter

just installed and is an easy plug & play mod. for anyone that would like to reverse the console shift pattern. Now pull back to upshift and push forward to downshift as it should have been from the factory IMO. Highly recommended!!

Wow. Paid money to reverse the wires? How much?

Wait. Correct me if i am wrong but wouldn't the use of the paddle shifters make this mod obsolete.

I would think you want to PUSH up for Gearing Upward, and DOWN for gearing Downward.

I guess that just make sense to me.

On paper, it makes sense to push up for upshifts, and down for downshifts, as it's easy to remember.

However, while driving and feeling the G's (from acceleration particularly), pulling down for upshifts should feel more natural as you're pulling in the direction of the G load.

And, like Lobux said, there is a DIY he posted in the ISx50 forum that shows how to reverse two wires to get the same effect.
However, if you spent what I've seen it posted for in GBs, it's probably worth it to just have the PNP harness in between, as the DIY specifically states to be careful not to bust up the harness as it's somewhat expensive to fix.

well either way is good but the natural way to do it (like all race cars that have this) is up push down for up shift and push up for down shift . the reason fo this is that you should not go against the gforces on the car. under heavy breaking when youre weight transfers foward one might accidently push the up and upshift instead of down shifting for the corner entry and vice versa. again thats how race cars have it. and even go karts (shifters) have it this way...

you are correct but in some tight corners where you find youreself having to turn the steering wheel more than 120-180 degrees. one could find it hard to find the paddles since they are connected to the sterring ( and moving alot in this hard corners) and not the base..

But then again like any mod. it is personal settings and taste... if youre used to it like it is leave it to what you feel is right

i have one and feel real good, at least for me it cost me like 50-60 bucks. not too bad....

Dave600hL what happend with the paddels? that you did not like? the tranny is way faster this way and the down shifting blib is addictive....especially with the exhaust

as already stated it's a matter of personal preference but for me just didn't feel right pushing foward to upshift. The explanation given about g-forces during accel & decel makes perfect sense and is why the stock set-up just never felt right (always going against the grain). I use both paddles and console shift when in manual mode (which is most of the time for me) and console tends to be easier when driving around town. Again, this is a simple harness with male/female connectors that plugs in between current (black) cable and female connector hard mounted to the console. For anyone interested I purchased from Clark at VIP for @ $ 50.00. Cheers

If you're shifting mid turn in a slow turn (the only time you'd have that much wheel action), you're in trouble. You should be entering the turn in the gear you want to exit.

$50? It took me about 15 minutes to swap the wires after I figured out where the connector was. It really is dead simple if you've ever worked with Toyota connectors.

yes i know but i was more refering when exiting the corner since 1 or 2nd gear are so short and if you take the corner al high rpm you could find youreself hitting the rev limit if you cant find the paddle . i was just trying to explain that in some situations its just easier to use the lever and not the paddles... and used this as an example. but again its what every indiviadual prefers ..

I agree with the OP on which way "feels right" to shift. Nice mod! I probably would have done the mod Lobux mentioned for free, but I certainly understand if some people don't feel comfortable doing it.
