Default Turning off the door chime

As soon as I open the door, the chime goes off and will not stop until I close the door. Sometimes the chime never goes off and I can't tell what is triggering it. I find the chime really annoying. Is there any way to disable it or have it only last a few seconds?

Is it related to the seat belt buzzer (chime) and can it be turned off the same way???? I don't know.
Here's the thread in question:

If it is, then the seat belt buzzer thread will solve the issue.

If not, then perhaps Joe Z can share with us a door buzzer shutoff (if that's even possible).....

Cheers, and good luck.

Colin.

That's about the selt belt, which I have already had turned off at my last service interval. Are you saying that the procedure will also stop the door chime?

Here is my door chime experience (all without the seat belt on):
- You enter the car, close the door, start the car, there is no chime
- You enter the car, keep the door open, start the car, you have a little door chime, 4 dings
- You are in the car, engine running, the door closed, you stop the car, then open the door and exit, no chime
- You are in the car, engine running, the door is open, you stop the car, then there is a door chime that do not seems to stop until you close the door (or press the little button in the door frame)

Honestly, none of these situation is annoying to me (expect the last case when I'm working on the car but that's another issue)

Which case are you referring to ?

I find it annoying since in most other cars, it only chimes if you forget to turn off the headlights, leave the keys in the ignition, or something. I keep thinking I forgot something when the blasted thing goes off.

I do not have this behavior, try the seat belt buzzer maybe it helps, also comb the "long list" of Lexus Personalized Settings, maybe there will be something for you in there...

That is not normal behavior.

Are you sure the engine is turned off before you open the door?

I have exactly the same thing happen but only a very, very small part of the time. I haven't been able to figure out what set of steps lead it bong when I've got the key in pocket, door open, etc...

I'll check next time whether I turned car off before opening door. I'd like to figure it out because when it does happen it is quite annoying.

^^^It WILL happen if you open the door before you turn off the engine. It's trying to alert you to something you did that the computer disapproves of.

Yes. Shifted into Park, engine turned off, headlights off, stereo off and I still get the annoying door chime. Doesn't happen 100% of the time, but about 80%. If I'm the only one this is happening to, them I'll talk to Lexus on my next service visit.

Maybe your car just dosent want you to leave. It wants to be driven more.
