Default driveable without key?

i was wondering since you can start the car with the key then once its on, you can walk away with the key. can someone without the key just walk into the car and just drive away?

i ask cause i start my car in the morning, and need to back it out of my garage thats in my backyard, then i need to let my dogs out of the gate then walk back to my car. For that 1 min. i am away from the car but it is started.

just wondering if the car is driveable without the key? or what would happen?

As far as I know you can drive it as long as it is started, but the car wouldn't be able to be started again once turned off.

Pretty easy to test, just start your car and leave your keys behind and go for a drive.

Negative... that would become a safety liability..

There is NO AUTO OFF function on any Lexus model..

So being a guy, I was too lazy to pull out my manual. At first I was thinking that this thread was a little silly....then I started wondering if it was me that was the moron...lol.

So I decided that I had better actually go try it out. Well turns out that I am a moron and it is driveable without a key fob being present. I was under the assumption that without a fob the car would run but you couldn't engage the tranny. WRONG!!

Guess I'm lucky that my F hasn't driven away without me....lol.

I have done this several times in my celsior and LS600 .Just this weekend I drove to the shops after letting my wife out of the car at home without a key and I had to get her to bring it to me.(she had the key and I helped getting the kids out which distracted me from noticing the beeps)

I actually do this quite regulary, but usually leave the car running while I get something from the store, so that I can still get home.
