There is a rumor they are going to be releasing a full intake for the F. I believe it was on one of the SEMA cars and a guy on Lexusf.com says his car was the test mule for it. He has pics and a dyno sheet. Guess we will have to wait and hear for anything official

The K&N uses an oil gauze type filter element while the Amsoil uses a dry type Nanofiber. Check the link below for more info about the Amsoil filter. IMO, I would use the Amsoil filter over the K&N.

Lobux,
"
" If the filter isn't the biggest restriction in the system changing it will make no difference to anything."

This is not true. Any resistance to the inlet air flow will decrease the inlet pressure at the valves. Decreased pressure means lower mass density which leads to lower pumping capacity. If the resistance in the air cleaner is small then reducing the pressure drop across the air filter will have less effect, but it will not be none.

^^nice in theory and accurate from a pure science perspective, but in practice you find and fix the biggest restriction first. If it's not the air cleaner, the impact of changing it will not be nearly as significant as fixing the real problem will be.

Always true that you work on the biggest restriction first, but you stated that it would have "no effect" Until you determine where the pressure drops in the inlet system reside, you cannot minimize them. During part throttle operation the "throttle body" is the major restriction and controls the flow of air. At WOT, the inlet air filter, runners, etc., become the major restriction to air flow.

The series components begin with the air filter and end with the restriction in the inlet runners in the head and the valves themselves. Minimizing the restriction in all of these increases the pumping efficiency of the motor (air pump) and increases horsepower capability as long as you are able to deliver adequate fuel.

All true. You might find this enlightening. Your air filter really isn't the bad guy here.

Interesting article. Is K&N a better flowing filter than Amsoil?

Great article. I wonder what effect the extra dirt unfiltered by the K&N has on the engine. Since the stock filter also shows that dirt is being let in, the shades of gray between the two are hard to quantify (damage to engine). Without additional information, better to stick to stock especially since the flow rates between the two are negligible in a 416 hp car.

Does BMC not make a drop-in for IS-Fs?

Not yet. M is in the break-in period.

What is your take on the filter discussion? Specifically the effect the extra dirt unfiltered by the K&N has on the engine. Since the stock filter also shows that dirt is being let in, the shades of gray between the two are hard to quantify (damage to engine)
