Default Shift speeds.

Lexus is claiming 1/10th of a sec for up and down shifts on the IS-F. is this fast? I remember hearing that the audi DSG can do it in 1/60th of a second, but I'm not certain about that number. How fast does the BMW SMG shift?

The SMG transmission will up shift in about 80 milliseconds in the highest mode (S6).

You do raise an interesting point. Compared to other car manufacturers' transmissions, the estimated time for the IS-F's shifts are not as fast.

And even though the lexus shifts faster than one can with a stick, it's still an automatic and not a true sequential gearbox like the DSG/SMG. Boo.

I would like to think 1/10th of a second is pretty fast.... As fast as the older Ferrari e-shift and BMW SMG.....

1/10th is still very quick for a transmission with a torque converter, obviously others will be faster that use twin clutches or SMG

Yes, keeping in mind that this is still an automatic with a torque converter, 100 millisecond shifts are very fast.

No, you got it mixed up ... it's half as fast as an F1 car. The IS-F shifts in 100 milliseconds, while an F1 car shifts in 50 milliseconds .

The IS-F is going to have a true DSG like gearbox. And not the isx50 style.

Well Lexus never said precisely what are the shift times. 1/10 could be 0.100 seconds or 0.189 seconds. Same like Fat Free candy that actually has 0.90grams of fat

It doesn't really matter anyway because it will still be fast as hell!

umm the isf is not dsg
anyway imo .1sec shifts are 'fast enough'
at that point i would be more concerned about the delay
ie how long does it take for the shift sequence to start after you pull the trigger for a new gear?

The last time I checked, a "DSG like gearbox" has 2 clutches & no torque converter. Lexus said it will have "a new torque converter lockup control allows the engine’s power to be directly relayed to the transmission in second through eighth gears, accelerating with the responsiveness of a manual transmission."

Quote taken from the official Lexus website:

Just setting the record straight.
