FYI, the latest R&T claims to have seen an IS coupe lapping at the Nurburgring. Toyota refuses to provide any information (hardly surprising). R&T speculates that this car is being built to go up against the new M3, and will carry a slightly de-tuned version of the 5.0 litre V8 being built for the upcoming Supra... somewhere around 400hp, along with a manual tranmission.

 

i always wonder how you guys come up with this information...I am amazed.

Well, lots of it gets "creatively constructed", the rest is general rumor, and some comes from mags (where they creative construct their versions). They tend to have better industry knowledge though, and I've seen plenty of their guesses come to light.

 

This story seems to surface at least once a year since '02. So far, nothing. I quit holding my breath.

 

V8 will be nice but I think it will be a bit too much for me. Consider with all the gas price this high and I think IS350 can do just the trick for me for regular driving.

 

It might be the toyota sedan that was cut and welded into a two door form. I forget the name of the car.

Or the Toyota "supercar" seen racing around on the 'Ring

 

I've been hearing about the "new" supra for about 5 years now.. lol

 

There WAS a custom IS430 for the previous generation... dont' remember where I saw it but it was pretty cool

 

that's one of a kind is430 done by rmm. there was another is400 with turbo in the east coast i believe

 

why would the IS coupe get a detuned V8 from the Supra? shouldnt it be the other way around?

so because the supra was a great car back so therefore you should never surpass it? Since when were lexus cars benchmarked from the supra, that is some terrible and non progressive car design if you want to restrict yourself to a car thats over a decade old. No one should ever bring the supra in for an argument with the 2nd gen IS, absolutely irrelevant and no relationship b/t the 2IS and supra besides the manafacturer.

 

well if there was a new supra IMO it should be faster than the IS500 but thats just me........ok?
