Cabin Air Filter Craziness
--
It has been suggested in many threads to change your own cabin air filter as they are not expensive and it's relatively easy. I have watched a number of u-tube videos on the subject and read the written instructions although there seem to be a number of different types of glove compartment filter housings. I have a 2015 IS350c and gave it a go.
My door covering was like none that I had seen or read of. With difficulty, I finally got it off, opened up the internal flow shield with the dash button, and pulled out the tray. The filter I got from Amazon wouldn't fit. To make it short, the cost to send it back for another would have made the filter double in total cost so I just cut the filter down and made it fit.
But why? The info that the filter would fit my model was displayed for that filter and another two dozen filters. I needed a 7.6" X 8.5" filter. Amazon lists filters from 7.5" to 11.5" in various combinations, no two alike, as being the right one. Even ones that say they are a factory exact replacement. That's crazy! Either my filter tray is some oddball, or there is no filter made that fits my vehicle. How can dozens of different size filters all be the right one for my vehicle? No way.
In the future I will just order one that fits first over what type of media it has (charcoal, hepa, paper) or one that is too big and just cut it down. I don't know how all the rest of you have been so lucky to have filters that were the right size to begin with.

This is what I got, perfect fit, just dropped it in, no issues at all. I also liked how it was a dual pack and had activated charcoal:
Amazon.com: Kootek Premium Cabin Air Filter with Activated Carbon, 2 Pack Replacement for Toyota, Lexus, Scion, CF10285, CP285: Automotive
Looks like its size was 7.5 x 8.5 x 1.2 inches

You're right, that Kootek is about the only one with the exact dimensions. I didn't realize that when I first ordered. You'll notice that the info given at the top of the page to see if it fits your vehicle says it won't fit. Can't believe anything as much as anecdotal evidence and a tape measure. That's what I'll order next time. It sure will be a lot easier than cutting and taping the one sent. It probably took me well over an hour to make it work.

I've dine my 4runner as well with denso and wix. The wix appear to be better.denso was kind of flimsy. The IS is very easy ti replace just make sure vehicle is in recirc mode
I also found mine on Amazon and it fit my 12' 350C without issue. Instead of charcoal it uses baking soda. Both are great options.

Yours is a different size than the '15 IS350c apparently.

I've learned to plug in a 2012 or 2013 IS C when searching for parts for my 2015. Lexus was in 3rd gen for IS-Sedan models by 2014 and many of the parts sites 'think' 2015 IS-C models take 3rd gen parts--they don't. All IS-C's are 2nd gen.
