Dashboard center A/C vent black tape?
Recently acquired a 2010 IS250C and had to replace the A/C vents assembly in the center of the dashboard above the screen. After replacing the vent, I noticed that the old vent had a thin black tape applied to places on the bottom edge that mate with the frame in the dash. I assume that's to prevent noise from two plastic surfaces rubbing together. The new vent assembly didn't have the tape. I have some cloth tape that's used to wrap wiring harnesses, but it's much thicker that what was on the vent and much less sticky. Can anyone tell me where to find the kind of thin cloth tape I need? The nearest Lexus dealer is a couple of hours away. Thanks.
That's not a bad idea, and if I don't come up with anything else, I may try that if I start hearing noise from the vent. I suspect that the medical tape adhesive might get gooey or deteriorate over the years. The tape on the vent I removed is still not gooey or hard even after 10 years of hot and cold temperatures. Must be something special about the adhesive they use on that black automotive tape.
