We purchased our car used but it had the factory sticker and it was a $650 option. It looked flimsy and my wife want to toss it in the trunk right away. I thought we should at least try it. Wow! What a difference it makes. Probably won't want it in warmer weather but it made for a warm ride last weekend. Sorry if it peeves some folks but the wife wanted to go topless last weekend and it was in the 40's. We drove with the windows and screen up and the heat on and were very comfortable and got to enjoy the ride.

What beautiful scenery! Glad you got to enjoy it full tilt. I got some top-down time Saturday. Took the longest route home that I could possibly find.

 

I found a real cheap solution on my way to Bay City TX yesterday. My suitcase is about 3 ft long by 2.5 ft wide. I put it behind my seat, long ways up, and lodged my backpack behind it to pin it against my seat back. Worked pretty well.

 

How do you take the caps off that cover the holes for the install? Thanks

 

My used IS350C was already outfitted for the screen so I'm just assuming that the plug doesn't fair well during removal since it is completely replaced by the receiver in the kit mentioned in post 6 above. John, I have posted some additional info on your separate thread.

TomDac did you wind up destroying the plugs to get them out? (BTW thanks for this thread as your posts--especially link to the video on the screen's operation prepared me for that part of IS-C ownership!)

I used a butter knife to gently pry out the plugs. They were in there pretty tight, but they'll come out and no, I didn't damage them at all. I was more worried about marring the interior panel around the plug, so I used some painters tape around the hole so the butter knife would not mar the panel.

For each plug, start on one side and when that side of the plug starts to come out, then do the same for the other side of the plug, pulling it out evenly until you have it out enough that you can use your fingers to pull it out the rest of the way...

I'm interested in finding one of these, what's a reasonable price to expect in the used market? I'm seeing mid-200s now and then... wondering if that's a decent price for one.

Do I need to purchase a separate installation kit to put it on? That seems quite pricey and bumps up the cost of this thing by quite a bit!

 

Yeah, you should be able to get one for around $200 off someone on ebay (wait for 10% off code)... the installation kit is really expensive, but you can purchase the plug and headrest insert separately for a little cheaper.
