2010 Lexus IS350C CEL for mass air flow sensor
Hope this can help someone else...this was driving me crazy and car was out of commission for almost 2 weeks!
So recently I was driving along when I saw the Check Engine light with traction illuminated...codes P0101, P1170, P0171, and P0174. I wont bore everyone with what those codes mean but suffice to say there was an issue. The main one according to the code reader was P0101 for the Mass Air Flow (MAS) sensor. The recommended fix was to replace the MAS...so I bought what I thought was an authentic Lexus part from ebay...still got the CEL. At this point I thought maybe there was a vacuum leak somewhere which would mean a torn/worn hose somewhere, possibly a bad gasket somewhere, etc. So not being a mechanic I started looking up anything I could possibly find on this. There wasnt a whole lot on the subject just people saying a lot about air leaks, changing the air box filter, stuff like that.
Well, I changed out the throttle body gasket, upper intake (large black piece under the engine cover) gasket, PCV valve, lower intake gasket (these are metal), and the canister purge valve, as well as checking every hose and tube I could. I changed the spark plugs. After all this, I STILL got the CEL with those codes. So on a lark, I decided to take the MAS I had and I took some MAS cleaner to it (at walmart for cheap)...and voila! All codes gone! There were two main morals to this obnoxious albeit highly educational story:
1. If you get a CEL with the codes above, do yourself a favor and try using MAS cleaner first. More than likely some filth just got on the MAS and needs to be cleaned (should be done with the services but with what the dealerships charge that might be highway robbery).
2. If that doesnt help the issue, buy a genuine MAS from a Lexus dealership. I made the mistake of buying one through ebay that was either not new or was a knock off. The 2IS IS350 motor is great but VERY moody about using OEM parts.
If anyone has any questions let me know!

I’m wrestling w/exactly this constellation of errors and I’m sure it’s MAF related. GS, but it’s identical.
This is sound advice and should be helpful.
