I didn't see any posts about this on the forum in my search, so apologies if I missed it.
What is the usage rate of ASC in your IS500?

 

I turn off fake engine noise in every car I get.

 

Ditto - I would say that so far, I have had it off most of the time. I did try it but preferred having it off, at least for now anyway.

 

I have it off. On a related note, 2 nights ago I tried an impossible burger for the first time. Gross, tasted synthetic. No grease, no good. Vegetarians are weird, sorry.

The ASC sounds too high pitched for me. I tried it and didn't like it. The exhaust sounds deeper to me than the ASC.

 

Hah, that was the first thing I did when I sat in the car at the Lexus dealer.

Hey, shameless Insta plug, or helpful tip depending on how you look at it. But I am realizing lots of people don't actually know how to turn off ASC, so I made a video showing how to do it.

When you turn the dial town, it doesn't actually turn the ASC off, it simply lowers the volume. There's an additional "click" or switch that needs to be done to get it to be fully-off.

It’s actual induction sound from the engine, nothing “artificial” about it.

 

^^ That is not the consensus out there - It is hard to find official documentation about how Lexus does the ASC but judging by what I saw on the UX, it looked artificial because the sound didn't even match the tach so I still feel it is an artificial sound but I am not 100% so I will not bet money on my statement

I remember reading somewhere it is different on the 500 vs the 350. My old 2013 GS 350 F Sport was induction sound, too. I will look to see if I can find the official Lexus statement on it for the 500.

 

Fman - Well, I had a 2015 IS 350 that didn't have the ASC and it did use the diaphragm that Alex is talking about but when they introduced the ASC, I think something changed since then. Alex' video is good but it is on the 2015 model without ASC, so are you 100% sure that everything stayed the same since then?

 

ASC is digitally-enhanced engine sound. Watch my Instagram videos above, and you can clearly hear there's a deep, artificial-sounding tone being played when the ASC is on. When it is off, all you hear is the intake sound generator, which is the sound tube Alex talks about in his video. In fact, when I turn off ASC, I'd say my 2021 sounds nearly identical to my pre-refresh 2016 IS 300 AWD, which did not have ASC.

The intake sound generator is the real deal. It creates sound based on the actual intake air. However, it is not the same thing as ASC.

(And yes, I recognize that the IS 350 does not sound the same as an IS 500, but they have the same systems for enhancing sound. Correction: No, they don't. The IS 500 has no sound tube.)
