Default Dashcam Parking Function

Has anyone figured out the utility of the Lexus Dashcam parking function given that the camera only covers the front view? In addition, once I figured out how to look at the data I determined that the hit and run crunch my car took on the front end on July 1 was not hard enough to trigger the camera....even though it cost me $6500 for the repair. I am wondering if I should just rip the camera off the windshield....

^^ My guess is that the Dashcam supplier to Lexus is not the best quality - There are some really good aftermarket dashcams out there. I was going to buy a VIOFO but I am reluctant to install one because I hate sticking anything on my windshield. I truly wish cars would be equipped with them from the factory - I mean the camera monitors the road for when to stop/brake so why not have a recording device. I know people worry about privacy issues but all it takes is an accident at an intersection where one accuses you of running teh red light when there are no witnesses and this will be worth it. I am addicted to dashcam videos on youtube and really would like to have one

I installed a Viofo A229 Pro 2CH with the front camera mounted on the shroud behind the review mirror. I barely see the camera except for the red LED lights that show the camera is recording. You have to replace the adhesive tape with something stronger though.

Any chance you could share a pic of how you mounted your camera? I'd be curious to see how it looks. Did you do a wired install or using the 12V plug?

I used the Dongar adapter initially with no issue. I then switched back to the 12V plug to avoid any future warranty

The Lexus Dashcam would have automatically recorded the vibration or shock for 60 seconds from the time of the detection. Did you check the Lexus Dashcam app? If it’s not there, you may be right that the impact was not strong enough to cause an auto-recording or the vehicle’s battery was too low that the Dashcam disabled its parking mode.

I checked, no recording. Battery was not low, I keep a solar charger on the battery. Just not enough crunch, I deduce. Lots of warnings in the instructions that hits may not trigger the recording.
