An Engine in one car from goes wrong and its an engine known for reliability for over 10 years and you shouldnt buy the car. Crazy.....

 

There have been a few fuel pumps go. I havent seen the gasket issue mentioned in newer cars. Bumper seperation is more of a pain as there is no fix, yet. Mine though is 100% fine, like many others.

 

I've found most dealers don't keep records or know much about the used cars they sell. The reality is that most are either bought from auction (which they have absolutely no clue the history - despite all the make up stories they will tell you) or best case traded in (but good luck if the sales bother to keep track of every single details from the previous owner).

I would just focus on the condition of the car objectively. Does the engine run smooth? Drive straight? Body condition? Tire condition (relative to mileage - like unusual rear tire wear - lots of burnout - LOL)? Wheel scratches (one car I checked has < 2k miles but all 4 wheels are curbed already - LOL)? Etc. And trust your instinct (on the condition of the car and not on whatever story the sales is trying to tell you).

This car model is relatively new, so any sample most likely still has good amount of warranty left. Also, it is a Toyota/Lexus, not a random quality brand like Alfa, etc. I would not over-think and would suggest focusing on checking the car condition.

 

I didn't pay much attention to this section of the forum until I saw a Blue Vector IS500 the other day and now I'm contemplating getting one later down the line.
All the problems you mentioned are under warranty, the worse one being the fuel pump, but that you can tell if it's about to go by starting the car. It should take a few milliseconds longer to start.

Just to add to this, dealerships are able to omit information from a certain vehicles carfax. Speaking from personal experience. Thats why sometimes i just pay the extra and check the carfax on my own if i truly am interested in that car.

 

Is that what you're seeing on Autotrader these days? That's nuts.

 

Brand new at the dealer, it's 94k OTD.
Autotrader is a bit less, but still pricey.
