Heated Windshield / Wiper De-icer
2015 IS350 F Sport
Had my windshield replaced today, and when they were installing it noticed that the new windshield they were going to install had an element with three wires.
The installers told me that was for heated windshield. I told him that I did not have a heated windshield. Sure enough when they pulled off the old windshield it did not have any sort of elements or wires.
However as we looked closerJy2+#_e! they told me that the wiring jack was there but was taped over.
So they connected the wire to the windshield and I was hoping that now I had a new feature that I didn’t have before. When I looked in the manual nowhere in the manual does it mention anything about heated windshield or wiper deicer.
i’ve tried using the front windshield defroster and the mirror/back window deicer, but neither one seems to turn it on.
Anyone have any idea how I could turn this on? I’m wondering if I would have to go to the dealer and have it programmed. Also it’s nowhere on the climate control on the LCD

Just throwing out some thoughts. You can often find where a wire goes by getting under the dash and following the wire. The hard part is usually access which can mean removing parts of the dash--although I don't know what to suggest there.
I would wonder if the wires hooked up were powered on full already??? Did the windshield installer check to see if the wires were hot? That would mean you would have heated windshield all the time, either with or without the ignition being on. Probably not good. Basically, all most switches do is interrupt the flow of power, so that any on/off switch would provide the control even if it wasn't a rocker that matched your other switches.

yea….trying to find the particular wire will probably be very difficult

I doubt it is hot and on all the time as I have felt the window to the touch with my hands and there is no difference in temperature on any part of the glass like there is with the rear window when I turn on the rear defrost.

So some of the 2014 F Sport models came pre-wired for fog lights. There was a capped plug behind the bumper cover that you could plug in fog lights and if you were able to switch out the turn signal to one that had the fog light controls it would work. I wonder if you are able to look behind the dash where that de-icer button should be located according to the picture, if there might be a plugged wire just waiting to be connected to a switch.

I know that power rear sunshades came prewired too and people were able to just plug them in and add the switch, so if you see two blank switches in that area, one may be for the power rear sunshade, assuming you don't already have it.

Agreed. While following the wire as some have suggested could definitely work, I think the easiest way would be to remove the panel around the area where the switch would normally go and then just look for an unplugged wire. It may or may not be capped considering it is inside the car unlike the fog lights. Assuming you find the plug, which I believe you will, this is the switch you'd need.

So it’s taking me a while as I was away but I took a look behind the dash board as best as I could without actually removing any panels…as best as I can see there was no lose wires or any capped plugs.
From what I can see there really wasn’t that many wires in there in the first place. So I’m not sure where else to look.
