i was closing my trunk this morning and i had a box in there that it tried to close on. Now my trunk won’t close and is stuck open. It appears the hinge / spring is off. I tired to push it back in place but I’m guessing I’m not strong enough. Any suggestions?
the picture below is not mine, someone posted it with the same iSsue but the solution wasn’t posted.
I forgot if the back seats fold down on the IS (I think they do) but if they do, try checking it out with the lid closed from the inside of the trunk (with the back seats down of course) and a friend holding the trunk lid shut or a box or something. see if you can press it back in then.
without seeing a pic of your actual problem, i can't really tell what's going on.
what does the trunk do when you try to shut it? the latch is what holds the trunk shut not the spring so is it not latching? post a pic of what happens when you shut the trunk all the way?
also this is why i miss the older (mostly on german cars) design where theres not intruding trunk hinges. but the downside is that approach is VERY costly compared to this simple design.
Did you find out what happened or how to repair it? I did a target curbside pickup and the rep did the same thing to a box in my trunk and I had to mess with it from inside the rear seats, until I got to close but now It only opens like 1.5” so, genuinely unusable on a daily basis. Just curious if you had gotten yours fixed
