My 2021 IS 350 only has about 5100 miles on it, and today, I notice the windows and/or doors creak when the body flexes. Whenever I go over a speed bump while turning or ran over imperfections in the road, the area around the B-pillar seems to emit a creak.

Fortunately, I had some leftover silicone grease from my times with my 2016 GTI... It also had some creaky seals in both the sunroof and the doors. That stuff was a life saver. So, I thought it'd be a good idea to use it on the IS. I put it on the doors, and it pretty much eliminated the noises. Voila. I even drove on the same roads as before just to be sure. Besides, I needed a reason to get out of the house. I digress.



I am not specifically recommending this Shin-Etsu silicone grease, but I sort of am... It's OE-spec lubricant for some Honda vehicles, and it seems to work well on other brands, as well. Note: before applying the lubricant, I also cleaned the rubber areas around the upper part of the door with interior detailer cleaner and a microfiber towel.

Actually a good reminder for me, I have some creaks coming from my passenger side door occasionally and the sunroof, but my car has like 140,000km on it now, lol

 

You're right because I had this "rattling" problem from the b pillar in my IS for about a year. The new dealership I went used a silicone spray grease and all the noises went away. Issue is, it comes back after some time so you have to keep doing it which is insane to me. Thanks for this post, are you able to point to which areas? I'd assume it's over the sealant but is it at the top, side, or all over?

 

I'd have to take photos to show it best, but yes, it's the sealant on the door itself (not the body/door frame). I went alone the entire top and back sides of it.

 

How's the substance, is it greasy? Well it's grease so I guess. But I mean do you notice it, would it get on your clothes /hands as you enter/exit etc? What's the intended use for that particular product?

I would think rubber seal conditioner would be the first place I'd start. And/or simply waxing the parts where the seals touch. I would just do that before applying a grease. that would give the seals a slippery finish so they aren't squeaking against unwaxed paint. Just my preference or tip to try! But either way glad you are happy now.

 

It's not that greasy, really. It likes to stick to the rubber seals, so I don't have a ton of residue left on my hands. Some, mind you... but a spare napkin will be plenty to get it off.

Thanks for the recommendation - I was pretty sure this product isn't actually right for the application, but I also haven't seen any downside to using it either.

 

My god did the MK7 Golf GTI ever have an issue with that. Especially in the summer. My GTI used to sound like a creaky old boat. Came from all 4 doors. As soon as you lowered the windows even a mm, it all stopped. Drove me nuts!

I ended up using some 3M dry lubricant and it did the trick, but it didn't last long. Tried waxing in the door sills, didn't help. Tried that Gummi Fledge stuff and that did nothing either. Good to hear there's another solution out there!

 

If you could post a picture of the areas on the seal you put it on, that would be great

 

I have some bad news. I drove to the dealer today for service, and the noise started up again. However, after the first five to eight minutes of driving, the noise went away, in spite of the roads being quite imperfect. Maybe it was just a temperature issue? It was cooler yesterday.

 

If it's anything like the MK7 problem, temperature played a huge role in when you heard it, and when you didn't.

 

When i bought my car (certified used), i had a similar noise coming from the driver's door over bumpy road surfaces. After several trips to the dealer (including them putting some 'stuff' on the door seals that didn't fix the problem), they finally fixed the problem be replacing two weatherstrips. 67862-53050 and 62312-53040

 

Good to know! I'll have to keep that in mind if the noise returns. Lately, I've not been suffering from it.

I am also facing the same issue in my NX 350.

 

I had this issue come up on my IS 500, and the silicone grease seems to have worked, this time. I believe it started when the car only had about 5,000 miles on it. I put some silicone grease on, and 10,000 miles later, the doors are still quiet.
