Default Trunk lid cable loose and pinch

Hi all,

I noticed a loose green cable in the left hand side of the trunk lid. A closer look revealed that the cable is sometimes pinch by the trunk lid stopper. The cable seems something aftermarket to me, the main wire is nicely enclosed in a plastic rail which protects the cables. On the other hand, the green cable is attached with zip ties to a felt covered black cable, which seems OEM.

I just want to fix the green cable to avoid been pinched/damaged by the trunk lid operation. The felt covered black wire is not an issue as this goes to the body side, avoiding any potential collision, but the green one goes upwards, and that is why it goes in the way of the hinge/stopper.

Does anyone one knows what is this green cable for? Does it has an specific fix point? Am I missing some clip here?

As far as I know the car is 100% stock (I am not the original owner).

I would suggest finding out what the green wire is for first, and if it's not actually being used for anything, then remove it.
The green wire is not OEM so it has to be there for some accessory.
Since it goes into the trunk lid it's likely either for a light of some kind or a camera.

Without looking at my own car I would assume the felt covered harness is also not OEM...consider that Lexus routed the main harness through that nice plastic protector at the hinge, but just randomly decided to leave some wire and harness outside of it...kinda doesn't make sense.
Since you're not the original owner I think it's safe to say the car isn't stock.
It would be nice to know what this random accessory is that is installed before deciding what to do with the wiring.

Thanks Sasuke, yeah, I agree with you. It does not make sense to have two exposed wires when you have a nice plastic rail managing all the other cables.

The only accesory I can think of is the towbar. Yeah, I know, why has this car a towbar? Because germans xD. I guess it can be something related to override the car tail ligths when you are towing a trailer (because it has his own tail ligths?). I have no clue, but it´s the only thing I can think of that it´s not standard (probably dealer installed, the tow bar itself looks very OEM and I know it was a dealer accessory available in Germany/Europe).

Oh, yes, the car has also a dealer installed auxiliary heating system from Webasto (very unecesary for the most part here in Germany), but I don´t see how can that be related to the trunk lid cables.

I will have a look in the towbar area, let´s see if I can see any green cable there. If it´s about the towbar I am ok, I don´t use/care about it. I will try te re-route the cable as far as possible from the hinge/stopper but that´s it. I was concerned about something important beeing damaged.

Okay...the tow bar would explain the harness...that would be the harness that would allow the trailer lights to work in conjunction with the vehicle lights.
Since the Reverse lights are on the trunk lid, they had to run the harness into the trunk lid.
If you have no plans to use the tow bar I would rip it all out...no point leaving a harness in there that could potentially cause an issue down the road.
