New to the forum and new owner to Lexus. I actually work at Toyota and there was fed up with driving 4 cylinders lol.
Anyways, I asked them not to install the front plate bracket (here in Ontario, cars need both front and rear plates) and the fines for not having a front plate is just stupid. I would like to mount my plate on the side via the tow hook spot. Can anyone recommend a good side plate bracket system? A bunch I have checked are ridiculously priced or apparently do not fit.
Honestly the side plate isn't a good look. It screams I'm 17 and i'm about to harm you bro with my car bro hear my car roar down the block and watch me as i do it.
lol I'd just put it in the correct spot. If you must, make some kind of clever mounting system if you insist on no holes.
We require front plates in Cali as well but been running without them the past 12 years w/o a single incident... it helps if you have no other obvious mods though like fart cans and other attention grabbers. i find if you be respectful, don't speed or drive wrecklessly, and don't have any distasteful mods, cops will leave you alone. my experience here anyway.
I hear you. I haven't seen many of the new designed ones with a side mount so I can't decide really. Its a lease so ideally I do not want to drill any holes.
I may as you said, just put it in the correct spot and go about my day. The only reason they haven't gotten rid of front plates in Ontario is because of Cops complaining. Other provinces have removed front plate requirement.

Thanks for the input!
BC still hasn't removed the front plate requirement either so I'm closely following this thread.
I'd probably go with the magnetic plate trick. But here's a thread [LINK] on the tow hook mount for the 2021. I think it looks fine. Just comes down to finding the correct positioning.
I had a plate mount for my 2016 GTI that had some plastic plugs that fit into the grille openings. I installed them by sliding them behind the grille and into the openings, then drilling into them with self-tapping screws to mount the license plate. There's a guy on ebay who 3D-prints these: https://www.ebay.com/itm/25505440985...409858&vxp=mtr (In fact, you can see my car in the image there, lol.) I wonder if you could request him to make some for the IS?
Grimmspeed makes a really nice one. It is WORTH the cost, because it will never rust and is extremely solid. Its made for the earlier gens, but has so many mounting options It should be able to fit.
Sauuceboss - Are you really set on mounting the plate on the tow hook? The reason I ask is that some people love the look of the side mounted plate while some feel its the only way to do it to avoid drilling holes in the front grill. I had a "universal" front bracket that I purchased at Canadian Tire for like 5$ or so (at the time) that had a whole whack of slots and holes (to fit any cars) - I would then just use zip tie to tie up the bracket in the mesh, then when the plate was ten screwed on the bracket, you would not see the tie-wrap. Luckily for me, I am now in a province that doesn't require front plates - Hopefully Ontario will catch up with the rest and eliminate this nonsense.
