Default How does a 2021 lexus rcf have carplay integration?

This is a strange thing. The new lexus is350 2021 or is in general has a completely different setup with the screen for 2021 and it includes carplay finally. I have seen the countless threads and aftermarket suppliers making iffy car play upgrades. However, after watching "TheTopher" review the new 2021 rcf fuji edition it seems that this rcf has the old-style display screen that the 3is fits into. This begs my question is it possible that us 3is owners could somehow get a oem style carplay upgrade with this screen since it seems like this screen or radio setup would fit into our cars. Begging to hear other people's opinions on this since I know the rc and is are basically the same cars on the inside.

Yes you can technically get a newer radio to fit into older car but it would be cost prohibitive. You need to buy everything, radio, screen, harness, and side bolster pieces otherwise clips will not fit, maybe even need to buy the cupholder trims with touchpad not sure. Someone has done this to their IS it was very expensive and you need to find all the parts on ebay to save some money but you're still looking at 2-3k just for Carplay. It's probably a lot cheaper to buy 10.25" Android Screen than doing OEM route.

Even if the screen in the RC F is older, it appears to be running the same kind of OS as what the new 3.5 IS (if you will) is using. It doesn't surprise me that it now has CarPlay.

Many owners of 3ISes have swapped to an aftermarket CarPlay-compatible head unit, if you want to try that.

Different cadence in when the tech development was implemented. The RC has the latest gen NAV for the 2018 model year. RC was released a model year after the 3rd Gen IS. It's all timing.

I asked about this a few months ago, as I was very interested in possibly doing this upgrade on my IS. But, as others pointed out, the cost to swap almost the entire center console and screen isn't worth it. In this instance you're really better off getting one of the aftermarket Android screens for under $1k vs spending almost $3k on OEM equipment.
