After driving my lexus is 250 for a good 3 years, I have finally gotten sick of how weak the engine is. Another factor that affected my decision is that I have always wanted a convertible living here in our beautiful sunny state of California and weather have been so good lately. I would have love to toy around with the idea of moving into an RC350 convertible but alas the only available convertible is the LC which is way out of my price range. So here goes my last pictures of my IS.
And moving onto my next adventure, I gotten myself a f23 m240i, such a beast!
I do still have the original exhaust and midpipe and rims and tire that I am willing to let go cheap for local meetup/pickup in Rowland Heights, CA only. If anyone is interested, feel free to pm me. (Might be slow to reply, probably wouldnt check this forum account often anymore)
The M240i convertible is one of my favorites. Congrats on the new ride. Year, transmission, any other details?
It's a 2018 8s zhp Auto transmission mineral gray with cognac (Brown) interior with 23.5k miles. It shares the same engine as Toyota Supra and thus it seems pretty reliable so far. A lot less space than the IS but a compromise Im willing to work with the better handling and power especially with the top down. This beast is also a lot more open to power gain, with FBO and stage 1 tune, and it can easily go over 400hp. Seat materials sucks honestly compared to lexus, the interior is arguably worse than the IS. The sound system is ridiculously bad, even with the top up.
Very nice! I like the color combo and cold start noise on the M240i. Any thoughts on the steering between the two cars?
I love the cold start too! especially with 1 resonator deleted, m240i comes with 2 resonator for some reason. No noise increase in comfort cruise, sounds sportier on sports mode. No drone, but growl WOT.
The steering is pretty subjective. On comfort mode, the m240i steering feels light while sports mode, it feels hard even on slow speed, it feels too manufactured and disconnected, Im not a big fan. Slightly prefer the steering feel on the IS, especially after my wheel change to the 19" (It was an unexpected pleasant surprise). Difference is not too major that it would affect a decision to choose one car over the other though.
Thanks for the feedback! I have been looking for a 6MT 240i cab but they are super hard to find.
Congrats on the new car and thanks again for the comparo. Keep us posted as you continue driving it.
For a 6MT 240i cab, they are almost a unicorn. When I did my search, I did 250 miles. I know for a fact, there is quite a few forum guy looking for 6MT 240i cab still. This matter is made worse by the fact that new 240i cab is discontinued. 2 series BMW is also number 1 fastest selling car in April 2021, fastest meaning least avg amount of time spend on used car dealer lots, followed by mazda miata.
If you can find one, especially in the spec that you want, my advice is take a day off work and lock it in right away. Chance to own one of this is fast slipping
Congrats. my friend has one but in red and i drove it. it's nice! I'm no stranger to manual M convertibles, but with the kind of on tap power the 240i makes, the automatic version will absolutely light you up before you even think about pushing in the clutch pedal in an MT version. the name of the game in this class of car is on tap on demand response and power. plus the ZF-8 is an engineering marvel.
i think a manual definitely goes well with lower power cars though like a Miata ND.

Yes and yes, the ZF8 shift so damn well and smooth, I honestly have to really pay attention to RPM if I want to catch the shift point. The manual comes into play for the power hungry. This engine is capable of so much more power that at some point, the automatic transmission would not be able to keep up. (Makes considering tuning my 2014 is 250 for a couple hp less attractive, to put it nicely)

I dunno, the auto in my wife's 330i is amazing... I don't think it'd have any trouble keeping up with a manual transmission car if all other things were equal. Not sure if I got what you were trying to say?
