Do NEW Lower Control Arm Bushings require an ALIGNMENT?
Ok so bushinga all got installed about a month ago. Car now goes in Saturday to be lowered on rsr springs not super downs just the downs so aprox 1”-1.2” im pretty sure. Anything special I should tell them about alignment afterwards? They have a hunter laser alignment machine so they should get it dialed in
You may not need one, but it's best practice, for peace of mind. No two bushings are manufactured or installed the same so pre and post install measurements may be off.
As far as "what to tell" the techs... depends. Are you going for something specific? If so, tell them. For me, I like my alignments done a certain way, but that's just me.
As far as installing springs, 95% of "kids" installing the stuff won't know concepts such as pre-load, so hopefully they know what they're doing. Most will just lower the arms, stuff in springs and set the car back down.
Preload procedure goes for front "A arms" and rear control arm. Any time the static height changes on a rubber bushing, you'll want to make sure there's no tension at rest. This should be completed with the car at natural rest. The alignment can also do this post-install once the car is on the rack. This is such a necessary procedure that BMW has a special tool for it. We used to make this tool ourselves back in the day because it's expensive @ $400. I personally developed a free and effective method for it making either tool unnecessary.
Anyway --the front A arms are a bit trickier though since you can't access them with the wheels on and car on the ground.

The springs will need at least a few days to settle, depending on how much you drive.
You might find that if you do the alignment the same time as the springs that in a month the steering might be off center slightly as the suspension has now settled.
If could also be fine too, just you won't really know until the springs settle.
Also make sure they equalize the rear Toe, even if the specs are in the green...this will zero the Thrust Angle for the rear axle.
I was able to change mine without needing an alignment. When I was done with the work I had the car checked and the shop said the car was perfectly in spec. If you want to make sure, just put pencil marks on your camber and toe nuts to make sure they don't move after you bolt everything back up. I do love my solid lower control arm bushings. They 100% fixed my premature tire wear in the front.

Might have to pay Lexus prices to get these installed but they always demand a 4-wheel alignment.
