IS300 Radio / Navigation replacement / repair question
Last week I ran into a problem where the rear AC was blowing hot while the front was cold and I couldn’t control it. I read on a forum to disconnect the battery so it would reset the solenoids which it did. But now my nav screen is black, the rear camera does work so the screen is good. I can insert and eject a cd and at night I see the screen flickering every few seconds.
I took the vehicle to Lexus and they quoted me to replace the entire radio which will be close to $3000. The service manager suggested I take it to a factory radio repair shop who he said they send a lot of business too. I went and the tech removed the radio and was going to send it off for repairs however he was told it would have to go back to Lexus for programming. I received several different explanations on replacing or repairing the radio. I found a few units online which are labeled plug and play. Are these radios plug and play? My radio has an SD card for the map which I would assume would have to be reloaded. The radio part number is:
NPN/86804-53T40
any help on this would be appreciated
cheers

Did you try the head unit reset procedure? (As originally posted by "swtjen101" on 4/11/19) (Credits : https://www.clublexus.com/forums/is-...een-black.html)
"Here is how to reboot the navigation/display screen:
1. Remove the battery terminals for positive and negative
2. Leave the battery unplugged for 30 minutes to an hour (may actually require less time but this is how long we waited)
3. Press the Start button once to turn on the accessory/battery mode (DO NOT HAVE YOUR FOOT ON THE BRAKE AND START THE CAR). *If you start the car the screen will still remain black and you will have to start over
4. Press the PWR/VOL button to turn on the Radio
5. The display screen will light up and show a progress bar showing it is loading the information from the SIM card. Once this completes the system will reboot and the display will light up as normal."

I wonder what they meant by it having to go back to Lexus for programming...there's nothing to program on the radio at the dealer...you put it in, it either works or it doesn't.
Part 86804-53T40 should work in your vehicle. You can confirm with the faceplate ID found on your radio and the bottom left corner of the face.
Part 86804-53T40 has an ID of P11010. If your radio has the same ID then it's a direct match.
The micro SD map card cannot be swapped from unit to unit however...once installed the card is married to the unit. The card can be married to a new unit, but not a used unit.
So if you buy a used unit, you either need to get the card with it, or get a new card from the dealer.
