Question 12v Power in steering wheel

i was wondering if anyone knows where 12v power was in the steering besides the one that powers the steering wheel backlights. I was looking for one that would supply power when the car is on but still shut off when the car was off, I know i could use the button power but it would only supply power when the button lights are on and during the day they wouldn't be on unless I turn on the lights manually which means I can't have my car's lights in AUTO. This is for a steering wheel with a shift light btw.

Also, does anyone know if the horn wire supplies power constantly or is it only sending power when it is pressed?

The Horn switch is supplied Battery voltage constantly by the coil side of the Horn relay.
When you press the Horn pad it grounds the relay thus closing it and triggering the horns.
This is confirmed as the Horn works even when the vehicle if off...unlike some other manufacturers where the vehicle has to be on before the horn will work.

I'm not so sure but logically it should be +12v on the steering wheel that is for the airbag. Tap into that would be darn dangerous and safety concern BTW so DON'T DO IT.

Not to mention it would throw an SRS light for incorrect resistance. I wouldnt have even commented this, as there's gotta be some person desperately looking for a 12v solution in the steering wheel, and blow themselves up.

After looking through the wiring diagram, the only 12V source you identified (the back lights) is the only 12V source in the steering wheel.
The switches themselves work on a 5V feed from the Combination Meter and the back lights only get 12V when at least the taillights are on.
As all the circuits in the steering wheel pass through the Spiral cable you could check to see if the Spiral cable connector on the column side has an empty cavity.
This may indicate an unused circuit through the Spiral cable that you could supply 12V to, and then use the corresponding empty cavity on the steering wheel side to supply 12V to the shift light.

I NEED HELP: I am having the same issue where I do not know where to pull a 12 V current from for my shift lights. I am totally OK with having to turn my headlights on manually if it means I can use the shift lights and not have them sit there dead while I have a cool steering wheel on my car. Do you know which wire or which harness would be for that backlight you meantioned?? I have a 2017 IS and I can’t find any info for the 2017‘s only 2014 through 2016. ANYTHING HELPS!!
