Default Larger tires than OEM?

Looking for a new set of tires and wondering about putting 235/45/18 in the front and 265/40/18's in the rear to give a little more meat on these wheels... does anyone have any experience with this or pictures of what it looks like? The 225's in the front are far too narrow and don't provide very much protection against potholes etc.....

Paging @ShrinkDoc , as they are running a setup like that, though not as wide.

I'm running 225/50/18 front and 255/45/18 rears. You can't go any larger/wider w/o rubbing. Take these measurements to a tire conversion table and see what it tells you. Also, keep in mind that tire brands might be off just enough to cause rubbing, even if the size is identical.

Good luck.

Any pics? I'm still debating on going up in size... I've noticed that my speedo is already 1-2 mph faster than my GPS meter so not trying to throw more variables into the mix and having issues with traction control etc... thanks!

Here you go. Speedo is off 3MPH at 60MPH (63mph). No biggie for me since I drive like an old man in a hat! Smoother ride, same mpg.

not bad - a lot bigger than I was looking for though..... I was thinking of 235/40/18 and 265/35/18's... might go with these:

My brother has them on his M3 and loves them.

One member reported rubbing with a square setup of 225/50/18 on stock suspension...but as ShrinkDoc mentioned, it could be that those tires were on the larger side of the spectrum...since not tires are created equal within the designated size.

That should work perfectly. A little wider than OEM, but not excessive. The diameter difference might highlight the cave between the wheel well and tire, unless you lower it slightly. Good luck!

What do you mean highlight the cave? Trying to figure out what it would look like...

Basically, will a wider tire make the distance between the edge of the tire and the edge of the wheel well more pronounced? Wider tires sometimes makes cars look like they're raised and not lowered.

Found this thread with these tire sizes...... kind of hard to see on the second pic but it looks pretty good IMO. I doubt the OD is much larger if not the same as OEM...... although those 50 series tires are definitely larger than OEM lol
