Braking Issue - 2017 IS 300
Hi again.
Car only has 10,500 miles. 30 months old. I notice when slowly coming to a complete stop, the brakes make a groaning noise. It's not a scraping noise. If I'm stopping quicker, the noise doesn't happen, only at SLOW braking. Brakes feel great and no vibration at all. I do, notice sometimes a short-lived squeal the appears when braking at higher speeds like on the highway but it's very intermittent. Any ideas? Could it be dirty break pads? Haven't washed the car in months.

A certain level of squeaking is normal with the F Sport, particularly if the brakes are cold. They get cold when the car's been sitting for a while, or if you have been driving at highway speeds for a long time (thus ventilating the brakes and cooling them down). It's happened to me as well.
Is this happening all the time, or just when the brakes are cold?
As for the groan, could be a lot of things, sometimes harmless. Maybe it's the dust shield, or something of that nature. Happened to me once, and I thought my car was dying lol.

Needed to replace my brakes and rotors around 13k miles. Have a thread I created on this as well if you want to go through it, don't remember what was discussed in details but here you go:
Rotors and Brakes Question
In short, it's nothing new and to be alarmed about, this car just go through brakes quick.

I'd just check the pads and go from there. Clean the everything and lubricate everything. Sounds like the pads just aren't warmed up. I get the croaking/groaning noise when i'm creeping forward less than 1mph.
If you plan on keeping the vehicle, it wouldn't be a bad idea to do some research on brake pads and snag em on sale. You're going to have to replace the pads eventually.

I'm over 30k miles still on the original pads and rotors. I have a service coming up Friday and plan to tell the techs to take a look at them just in case. I'm not sure what's happening to some of these cars where they need new brakes so early. Pads - maybe I could understand 13k miles if you drive hard. But rotors? Rotors should be lasting you a lot longer.

I have the same issue on my f sport and I just replaced both rotors and pads with oems last week!
Noise only happens when starting the car in the morning and at slow speeds. I think it’s just dust or rust. If you find a solution let me know.

I was much happier with the Akebono ASP which were ceramic pads so no dust. I thought the bite was very similar with the exception being when they are cold first thing in the morning in the winter months. Takes a few stops to warm them up but after that, great brake pads. My OEMs only lasted 10-15k so the Akebono pads should last double that.
Yeah, it's annoying. Only happens during sloooow braking. Sounds like a snow plow over pavement but not so loud. If I brake quick at faster speeds, it doesn't happen. I have a fairly good highway commute in Southern CA with a lot of stop and go in the evening for no other reason than people driving ridiculously slow like zombies holding everyone else up. Unreal. In northern New Jersey, its only bumper to bumper on highways due to weather or accidents- never because of slow drivers like here in CA. Must be the legalized pot.
So I posted a few days ago about weird brake scraping noise and general scraping noise from the front passenger wheel that varies with speed.
I have a IS 300 AWD that only has 12,775 miles. Its a 2017 that up until March of this year only had 4,600 miles. Since moving to CA, I put a lot of highway miles. About 8,000 since. As you know, there's a lot of stop and go traffic on the highway that requires frequent use of the brakes.
Anyway, the service tech called from Lexus and said that the brake pads are completely worn down in the front and that the back have about 1mm. And because the metal was touching the rotors, they have to be replaced in the front. Whereas the back still can be resurfaced. All in about $1,300. I find this atrocious. On top of that, he tells me that my front tires are getting thin on the sides and will need to be replaced soon.
None of my previous cars had this problem and my driving hasn't changed. I just can't rationalize this being acceptable. He said it's not a warranty issue. Is the IS such a crapshoot that it wears down so quickly? The car doesn't shake at all when I brake. Are the rotors really bad?
My lease is ending soon. I don't think I'll be going with another Lexus after this experience.
