Question Any luck with 200t Lag?

Hey guys, pretty new to the forum here, I own an 07 is250and I love the way the car drives and shifts and I’m looking to upgrade to a 3is. I was able to test drive a 200t and a 250 f sport and I was pretty underwhelmed. I was pushing both cars with the nervous salesmen and I liked the way they handled but I was not thrilled with the way they applied power. With my old 250 in power mode you get an instant downshift and hard pull that neither car seemed to have. I don’t even think I was able to get the 200t into boost with my short test drive even in sport plus. Anyhow, has anyone here had any luck in reducing the lag on the 200t? If so what did you have to do? If an intake, tune, and maybe a throttle controller would make a good improvement on the 200t’s lag than I think I might seriously love the car. Also considering a 350 but most of them seem to be just a tad out of my price range.

go for the IS300 awd. same engine as a 350 and they go for cheaper. in the end, you can tune it too if you’re itching for more power. depending on your area though since there was a 200t, you may have to locate the awd IS out of state!

+1, the 300 AWD has good power. Realistically achieves 0-60 in 6.2-6.3 seconds, but where it shines is once you're already moving. Transmission downshifts pretty quickly due to it only having 6 gears. And yeah, you can make 350 power with a tune, and there you go - poor man's 350. Even without the tune, you also get that V6 sound.

OV tune helps drastically with lag.

This and RR Racing will be releasing a tune in a few months that should also help.

Waiting to see what kind of changes and performance will be available with the next OVTune.

I'm assuming downpipe and probably aluminum charge air pipe would be required for either?

I think we are about tapped out on power. The update will more than likely be overall stability improvements and "fine tuning". Hopefully there ends up being enough interest for a turbo upgrade so OV and RR will release a kit.

Looking for better transmission logic and correction of the throttle lag more than anything else. More power and torque is extra toppings, but I'm actually not dissatisfied with how much power the car has stock.

For what it's worth I agree. I'm not expecting much else.

Personally, I babied my 300 RWD the first 1000 miles during break-in which made the ECU think I prioritized fuel economy. The transmission got less and less sporty over time until eventually I pulled the battery for a few minutes and reset what the car learned. Then I drove the car like I stole it for a couple hundred miles and the transmission is much more compliant.

Turbo lag is still there in the low end. Passing on the freeway is no problem after that reset and the car is still fun to drive. An IS 350 would be more fun but it just isn’t worth how thirsty that V6 is in my case.

Hey,

I have a 2016 IS200t, and I have installed a catless downpipe, and air intake and I dont encounter nearly as much turbo lag! Next up will be a JB4 tuner running MAP 2, but I am impressed with how well the lag has been impacted with 2 relatively small mods.

What intake are you using?

To me, installing a catless downpipe wouldn't be worth the hassle. Even w/ a tune and FBO/downpipe, a stock 328i will blow your doors off. So what's the point of getting super smelly + super illegal + super obnoxiously loud just so you can lose to a community college student in her leased 328i that has stuffed animals in the back window and empty starbucks cups.

Also if you're in Cali and you have a catless pipe, you can get big fines. I report those cars to the state no questions asked and the state investigates no questions asked.
