Default Looking to replace my stock tires

I'm looking to replace my tires on my 2016 Lexus IS300. I'm looking for tires that will last while also providing performance. I saw previous older threads recommending either continental or Michelin. Is this still the consensus or has this changed ?

I'm in the same boat as you, the dealer recommended continental

and I'm looking at the CONTINENTAL EXTREME CONTACT DWS 06

I'm not sure on the longevity of these so maybe someone that had them can chime in?

I've used Michelin Pilot Sport 4S's. IMO best tire you can put on this car, provides excellent grip, long lasting, and are a great allseason tire. Offers better cold weather performance than Super sports. Havent tried continental but I've heard good things about them too.

I have a friend/coworker who wore out the DWS 06s on his IS 350 RWD in a matter of months. Less than 8,000 miles.

However, I will say, he drives pretty hard. I test-drove the car while it while on those tires and found them to be pretty responsive, yet quieter than stock.

I like my BFGoodrich G-Force Comp-2 A/S a little better in terms of sportiness, and tread wear seems decent. They seem to have lost only 1/32" or less in 4,000 or so miles, and the factory tread depth is 9/32".

edit: Actually, I have had the tires a total of 9,000 miles now, and the lowest any of them are at is 7/32". The front right tire is 6/32" in the middle for some reason, but the others are all consistently at or above 7/32", including the inner and outer portions of the FR tire.

I purchased the DWS 06 for my is 200t(RWD) and they were perfect up until around 17k miles. During rain I started to feel a bad hydro planning feel when driving at high speeds. I haven't bought a new set yet since i saved my original tires for summer use. Oddly enough the feeling started right after I blew out a tire on a pot hole and got a brand new tire.

Is there a tire thread anywhere? I’ve searched and can’t find a thread about different tires people have tried

Michelin simply makes the best performing tires. They are first place test after test after test.

However, the grippier the tire, the lower the tread life (typically)

When my factory tires wear out, I’ll be upgrading to Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S because I know they’re the best for my needs. If I was concerned about tread life, I’d get Continental Extremecontact Sport tires as they provide about 15% more tire life with only slightly less grip at the limit.

So I think ill be getting continental because I’m more concerned about the tread life.

Excellent. I had the original DWS as well as the 06 on my last car. The originals outlasted their rating and I sold the car with the seconds on it.

I have had nothing but bad luck with the Michelin Pilot Sport AS 3+, first set had extremely bad feathering and road noise in the front tires after 4000 miles. Michelin replaced these for me and the issue is back after 3000 miles on the new set. I had an alignment after the tires were put on and the alignment was still in spec when replaced.

As a reference point on the original Bridgestone Turanzas I got 52000 miles and have not changed my driving style. My local Lexus dealership said they only reccomend the Turanzas for longevity....sucks as they cost about $1300 and do not rate well in virtually any category.

I replaced the LCA bushing with the RC F/GS F part but it hasn't seemed to help much although the driving characteristics are firmer and more confident

I’m running continental extreme contact dws 06.
great tires, not to firm or loud, not the best from
a pure performance standpoint but overall a great tire.

previously had Michelin pilot sport as3’s and while they were great from a performance standpoint they were really firm and loud. One piece of advice would be regardless of what tires u get if highly recommend getting the upgraded RCF/GSF control arm bushings, there’s a million and 1 threads on them.

I recently purchased Goodyear Eagle Sport all seasons for my IS 350 AWD. I previously had them on my Subaru WRX and done 35k+ miles, still having decent tread left when trading the car in. For me it was between the Michelin Pilot Sports, Continetal DWS 06 and the Eagle Sports. Ultimately I went with the better tread life as the IS is known to eat through tires with the stock setup and couldn't be happier with the purchase.

I currently have the Continental DWS 06 and couldnt be happier with them. The first few hundred miles, I thought I made the wrong decision as they felt... too soft, like marshmallows. I dont know if it there was an oily film as the tires were brand new or what, but after "breaking them in," they are amazing.

I'd describe them as a very comfortable and classy daily driver set of tires. Immensely exceptional in the rain. High levels of grip if you ever need it, but I wouldnt take these to do track days as they lack the stiff sidewall and feel associated with a stiff sidewall.

I'd recommend these a hundred times over for daily driving purposes.

I agree with your assessment of these tires. I’m on my second set and like you said “couldn’t be happier with them”. 👍

I haven't had any experience with the Continentals, and I am curious how they compare to the Firehawk Indy 500's.
Can anybody chime in on them?

I would run them as sporty commuter tires, I have them on an A3 and they've been great. I run Hankook R-S4's on my IS and love them, but they're a completely different category of tire.
