Default Trunk Will Not Open

The trunk on my 2014 IS250 won't open. About two months ago, I noticed there was a rattle whenever I'd open the trunk for groceries but other than the annoying rattle noise, everything worked as normal so I just disregarded it. Then, a couple days ago, I was loading an unassembled desk (still in the box) inside the trunk, and when I laid it on top of the bumper (with the trunk open), the weight of the desk must've broken off another piece of plastic. I don't think the cable is broken because the trunk continued to open (which is how I got the desk out) but now it is permanently stuck. I've even climbed inside the trunk from the rear seats and pulled on the trunk lever, but it still won't open. I don't believe the cable is broken, it's something else.

Any idea what I might need to replace? I'm having trouble locating anything specific from generic Google searches for IS250 trunk parts. I'm sure it's something simple and cheap. I've attached a photo of another IS250 we're I've circled the plastic piece that broke from the desk. Just trying to figure out what I need to buy to have replaced. Appreciate the help.

I guess the first thing is to get the trunk open to see what's the what in there...they get all the parts you need.
The good news is you won't need a cable, because there are not cables. Actually, that's almost true...there is a cable on the manual trunk lock...the one you use the blade key with.
Outside of that though, the dash button and the button under the license plate light area are just switches that trigger the lock assembly motor in the trunk lid.

First thing, check the switch in the glove box to make sure it's not activated...it's the valet switch for the trunk.
Second, you mentioned you climbed in the trunk and pulled the emergency release handle and it did not open? Can you just confirm that, cause that would mean that emergency release handle actually doesn't open trunk...thus making it pointless.

What happens when you push the dash switch to open the trunk? Do you hear any noise at the trunk?
What happens when you push the trunk switch by the license plate lights on the trunk? Do you hear any noise at the trunk?
What happens when you push the remote button to open the trunk? Do you hear any noise at the trunk?

Last resort would be to climb into the trunk and remove the liner on the trunk lid...then you can see inside and hopefully figure out what's jamming it shut.

Can't thank you enough for your detailed reply. Honestly, I didn't even know about being able to use a key on the trunk. I had pretty much given up after the key fob not working or the dash button.

After I read your reply, I went out to inspect the trunk again, and this time the dash button worked, so I didn't need to try the glovebox or traditional key. Here's a picture of the part that's broken. As you can see, I've added super glue to it for now to see if it'll "stay" until I can get a replacement. Gonna let it cure overnight and will try tomorrow. I'm guessing that the reason the dash button works intermittently is because sometimes the broken pieces "fall into place" enough to work temporarily. If you know what this plastic piece is called, please let me know. Thanks again for taking the time to reply. Might've saved me some money. Thanks!

Here is a parts diagram: https://parts.lexus.com/a/Lexus_2014...2430-6403.html
At first when you look at it your head will spin lol...but I think you need the Luggage Room Rear Cover (64439-53040-C0) - It's near the bottom right of the diagram
This looks like it showing the little door/flap: https://parts.lexus.com/p/Lexus_2014...3953040C0.html
Definitely double check with the dealer, I'm half confident in the diagrams...and if I'm wrong then you're out like $8 lol

Sorry for digging up this old thread. Was anyone able to confirm this part number?

The same flap broke for me. Took the car to the dealer and Lexus said I have to replace "LUGGAGE COMP REIM CVR 64716-53100-C1" (i.e. the entire plastic surrounding that flap) for like USD300 excluding labour! If that's the case I might also take the super glue route as well.

I would just order 64439-53040-C0.
I'm pretty sure that is the little flap and the part is $6 and change, so probably like almost $8 after tax.
The description of the part says it comes with the larger panel, so that's why I'm pretty sure that's it.
Likely the dealer can't find that tiny part in the diagram because it's super obscure, so they just want to sell the entire large panel to be sure it gets replaced.
It's like selling you a door cause you need a door handle...in this case they can't find the handle in the parts diagram, so whole door it is!

Was making an attempt to super glue the broken plastic flap together and found there was a rectangular plastic lid that could be popped off on the inside facing part of the large plastic trim. I flipped over that rectangular bit (not the broken flap) and it has the part number 64439-53040.

It seems to be the cover to access the screws holding the latch ring to the frame (not sure if my terminology is correct).

Guess it's back to super gluing. My first attempt didn't work out so well. Will need to give it another go next weekend.

Well, I guess I didn't get the right part. At least I was in the general area.

Any chance you can see a part number on the flap? The reality is the flap is manufactured as a seperate piece, but they may not have assigned it a part number independent of the overall large panel.
FYI...the latch ring is simply called a striker...same as each of the ones for the 4 doors.

Sorry for digging up this thread, my flap broke too and am looking to replace it without replacing the whole panel, any luck on the actual part number? Thank you.

Bought the part, it comes as this luggage cover instead of the flap.
