Default Replacing subwoofer without sub control?

I know there are a lot of RCA cabling to add subwoofer volume control but I think it looks too tacky for my taste. What is cons for doing ML subwoofer to an aftermarket (box setup) without volume **** in terms of sound quality? I can live with having to control it through bass setting and etc.

Are you just replacing the sub or are you adding a seperate amp for the new sub?
