Had my windshield replaced, I'm pretty sure there's a piece of rubber moulding that goes across the top of the windshield but the installer says I'm crazy. I've washed my car a bunch of times and I don't remember there being a gap between the windshield and the roof, in case I'm not tripping does anyone know of a part number so I can just put it on myself? thanks

I can't remember on my IS, though I don't remember seeing one.

My GS does not have a moulding, just a rubber seal.

 

yeah that rubber seal, they say it never existed. I think it's actually part of the glass, like glued to the glass you can't actually put it on after. Awesome.

thanks bro, worried water will get in the gap and cause problems but I guess the urethane is what really seals it, rubber is probably more for looks

my 16" IS 350 F sport. There isnt any moulding between the windshield and the roof. But theres definitely some rubber underneath in that gap. That gap is very small, maybe 1/8 of an inch

I want to say the molding is attached to the top of the windshield and then laid down where the rubber seal fills the gap, I bet it's going to create wind noise without it....I will find out soon when I take the blue tape off. Can't imagine standing water in that channel is a good thing either.

 

I will try to take a better picture tomorrow morning, but there is not any moulding on the top side of the windshield for me. Looks like they stuck it underneath the windshield with a very small gap for a more slick look.

 

just wondering what the repercussions would be without it, water just sitting in there unless it channels down the sides...

 

Sorry im not very good at taking pictures. However, here they are. I agree with you that there is molding missing with your new replacement windshield. Looks like it was supposed to be put in before the glass was installed. Im guessing they made a mistake somewhere, whether it was forgetting to put it in, misplacing it, or if it was something additional that was supposed to be ordered for the replacement that they overlooked, and are now trying to cover it up.

Do you have any high quality pictures of the front of your car, maybe its possible to zoom in and be able to see that the rubber moulding was indeed there before the replacement. Was this done by a reputable company or through insurance? My bet is that the windshield is going to have to be re-replaced in order to have the moulding installed properly.. unfortunately..

Edit: Is there even a rubber seal down there? From what i can see in your picture, it doesnt look like there is one, which is what im referring to above

 

The front and rear windshield both have a molding along the top.
The molding doesn't stick out beyond the glass and roof, and for those that have wrapped a roof, the molding sits tight to the roof panel....it's challenging to move it away to get the vinyl in underneath it.
