Hey guys, first time poster here. What are your guys' pros and cons on the 2016 vs 2017 IS200t (Both F Sport)? I know I'm dead set on one of the two, but would love to hear your guys' opinions on them. Also, I found a pretty nice deal for a 2016 IS200t from Lexus of Santa Monica, California, but the car isn't Lexus Certified. Do you guys have any good recommendations for a car mechanic in that area? Thanks a lot in advance.

In terms of looks its pretty subjective as the 2017 F-sport came with a more aggressive front bumper than the 16. The rear taillights are also different as well as they added a diffuser. The biggest plus for the 17 model is the bigger 10inch screen and standard safety features (blind spot monitoring, automatic braking etc) I personally got a base 16 because I didn't like the 17 rear taillights and Fsport front grill without fog lights.
Also, this will be my first time buying a car so any tips on how to talk to the salesman / haggle the asking price would also be greatly appreciated!
Rule one: Research the exact car you want to buy and your budget including insurance.
Rule two: Research how much the car you are looking at is going for in your area.
Rule three: Be willing to walk away as this car is not rare there is plenty of them.
You seem very young. In your case I would post exactly what cars you are looking at and let the community help you.
Sounds right. Why did you want to sell it back to them?
Cause lease is up June 2020 and I wanted to get another that I could turn in in 2022. Hopefully by then a new generation will be out. Plus the new Fsports are currently about 20% off MSRP after all incentives and dealer markdowns.
I would go with the 2017 as the front end facelift is worth it alone. I want to say that the Lexus safety suite stuff came standard starting 2017, I can't remember though. Also, if the mileage is around the same on both and the prices are not to different, the newer car would be the better choice. I would also consider getting an L Certified one for peace of mind.
2017+ that front grill alone looks better. You may not get the 10" screen depending on whether the car has navigation package or not. I opted out of the navigation package for my 2019 (saved like 2k) and got stuck with the good old 7 inch screen. Not a big deal to me because Lexus made horrid use of that 10" screen.
Updated headlights and more defined front end looks much better than the prior year. Also the additional safety features are worth it, mainly rear cross traffic and blind spot detection. I believe backup cam is standard with the 2017+ as well.
2017 got a minor safety enhancement to the structure. 2018 saw a further and final enhancement. (Patented e46ct exclusive post from a while back) check it out i posted the differences that took me weeks to research
as for tips. you have power. you are in control. never forget that.
also this car isn't really that hot so that gives you more power.
you control the situation.
also accept no add-ons, no gimmicks, no extras, no extended this, no special warranty that. no "dealer guard this" etc guard that. NOTHING BUT THE CAR.
gap insurance may be fine depending on your financing setup.
Hello everybody thanks for taking the time to respond to my post. I wasn't expecting such a welcoming community with such thoughtful insight. I personally really like the 2016 because I wanted to add in fog lights. My favorite color scheme was black exterior and red interior F sport only. I was looking at IS200t or the IS350, but preferred the IS200t due to better mileage. Any thoughts on the differences between these two models? I'm a first time Lexus buyer I had a 2012 Honda Civic that I leased after graduating, but it is time to upgrade to the Lexus family.
