Whenever I come to this radar speed sign, with my detector on, it changes over from speed to L followed by some number. Anyone really know what this is and what it means?

 

Maybe you maxed it out I.e we’re going faster than what it can display and that’s just some random thing that pops up?

 

Haha nope. was going 45. had cruise set. i can see it far off in the distance as normal but as soon as my radar picks it up and i get closer, it changes. i’ve seen it from L1 to L9

 

maybe thr L is a burnt out 4. your speed fluctuated from 41 to 49.

 

^ that's exactly it. It's definitely a burnt out vertical part of the 4.

 

Unfortunately, that’s not the case. When taking any other vehicle that’s not equipped with a detector it detects my speed just fine and the four is not burnt out. I’m stumped! And curious.

 

I definitely don't think it's an "L." Your picture you posted definitely is 4 missing the vertical line. I haven't ever heard of it, but it sounds like your radar detector is interfering with the radar sign when it's on - especially when you say the display is fine when driving another car without one.

 

I just don’t get the fluctuation between “L” 8 and “L”1. I have my cruise set to 45. Even if you’re going above the limit, let’s say if someone(i definitely haven’t) went 55 or 60, it still says L and a number. It’s such an odd phenomenon. If i turn the detector off while it displays the “L” is resumes reading my speed, and it’s on the dot too. no fluctuation like when the L is displayed.
