Default Dealership sprayed scent inside car

Want an opinion what you guys would do..

I am so pissed off on this one. Brought my car to the dealership to have the driver door rattle while playing music fixed. They “fixed” it, and washed my car. When they rolled it out, I got in and and was like what the F is this smell (heavy berry scent)..the service advisor told me they cleaned my winter mats and it has a berry scent. Mind you guys the car has a ‘new car smell’ with only 3500 miles. When I got home I realized the smell was not coming from the mats but the door panel. The service tech sprayed down my door when he was done reinstalling the panel to clean it up..it’s like a heavy scented armoral..I left the windows open all weekend in my garage with banking soda open in the car. I wiped it down with windex, water/vinegar mixture but the scent is cemented in that panel. I would not be surprised if it was still there in 6 months..

What would you you guys do?

You cleaned your door panel with Windex?? Like any cleaner, the smell will fade. I'm sure the most you are smelling is coming from the floor mats (if those are rubber I would soak them in a light mixture of Dawn dish detergent and warm water).

Without knowing what color your IS300 is, in general, it is a bad idea to let the dealer wash your car.
Many discussions about that here. The dealers use mechanical carwashes, which can scratch the finish.

Yea I wiped with Windex, shouldn’t hurt anything..not an aggressive chemical. The floor mats were not the issue they floor mats were never sprayed..just the door. The smell is so abusive and potent I don’t know why they would ever do that unless they were trying to recondition a used smokers vehicle

Mines white so generally speaking I’m okay - but this is great info..probably won’t be having them do that again. Thank you!!

I'd simply request that they do not clean the interior again without your permission. I wouldn't want the dealer using any sort of chemicals like ArmorAll on the interior unless I approved of them. I prefer to just use a damp towel alone when cleaning my interior. Haven't run into anything I can't clean with just water and a towel yet, except for the steering wheel leather obviously.

Yup itll go away.

The chemicals that make up a new car smell are built into the materials of your interior.
The best air "freshener" chemicals last 2-4 days at best.

I've had a polite note placed on steering wheel or inside of driver side window requesting they dont detail the interior. And also request no air freshener everytime even though it comes with the car wash I purchase regularly.
I know it's annoying and almost rude to ASSume you would like that but no big.

On my last service, I left a large sign saying; "No wash, no vacuum".

They vacuumed anyway.

I don't know what type of "air freshener" that my dealer used. After two weeks, it still didn't go away. I had to buy Ozium odor eliminator to get rid of the dealer "air freshener". It still there after a week of Ozium. I just have to deal with it now and hope it will go away eventually.

Just take whatever is smelling out of the car, and if you can't, leave the windows open while it's inside the garage, it'll be fine in a few days.

Now, if you could tell me how to preserve my car's "new car smell" forever, that would be great. I have 2,800 miles on her and I want to keep that smell FOREVER!!

at almost 5 years old I still on occasion get that smell. Not full spectrum but a little. My wife can smell it every time shes in the car but me only after it's been a couple days.

Anyways, I've read up a bit on the new car smell. Who has the strongest, how it comes about, and how to replicate. I've go no answer for you on how to keep it.
I dont eat in the car, if I have to put hot food in I seal the bag and put it in my trunk and air the car before parking ha.

Someone needs to figure how how to replicate each car manufacturer scent and bottle it up! Theres enough money in the perfume business they can figure it out. As far as I know none has.

I haven’t tried it, but.....

“Meguiar's New Car Scent Protectant provides protection and shine to all vinyl, rubber and plastic while leaving behind a fresh, new car scent.”

Windex has amonia in it, it's an extremely aggressive chemical. What are you talking about? Never use windex to clean anything other than glass. (and definitely not tint).
