Default Oil Filter Tool

Does anybody have a good oil filter removal tool they recommend for our 3IS? I’m assuming the tool works across all Toyota/Lexus’ with the cartridge style filter.

I just use the big filter cap socket that fits on to a 3/8" drive ratchet. For Toyota and Lexus, you need the F size. Mine is a cast aluminum one that came from autozone and it works fine on my IS350 and Tundra.

Hmm I’m looking for a good one I can get on amazon or eBay since I’m in Germany currently.

Does anybody know if there is a difference between the tools related to engine size? I see some specify the liters of the engine etc.

from what i remember, the universal tool i bought had two sets of notches for two of toyota's different geared oil catridges.

i wonder if the 3IS can convert like the CT200h/prius can: https://www.ptetra.com/blogs/blog/pr...ter-conversion

That would be so convenient! Cartridge style filters are so annoying.

I don't get this, as I remember in my old IS250awd I bought the tool to take out the filter BUT in my IS350 I just use the 3/8" drive ratchet and plug it directly to the cap square hole and take it out. No tool needed.

yep and you get the added benefit of the option of using a larger filter. i'd have to look at photos of the block to see if its remotely possible. it is in the 4 cylinder family. maybe there's something there.

On the 2IS, that is a separate piece. It can come off and the filter housing still be on there, although it usually doesn't. I am not sure if the 3IS still has that as I haven't changed my oil yet.

Yeah I haven’t either, but from a video I saw, the 3IS does need that adapter tool. I’m still about 2-3 thousand miles away from my oil change.

Yeah, I use something like what was posted in the amazon link. I bought it for my 2IS but kept it since it works on the Tundra as well. Now that I have a 3IS I will use it there too in about 2k miles.
