The 3IS has a unique smell
Anyone noticed this when getting in and out of your other car? Since I own a CT, whenever I drive the IS it has a sweet/chemical smell to the interior. Kind of an annoying smell. I suspect its the vinyl and the supplier used. (MY CT is scentless)
And I keep my cars immaculate so it's not any outside scent I've brought in. It's distinctly coming from the materials of the interior.
I hadn't noticed it before until I bought my CT and drive that. I switch cars and the smell is strong.
BMWs of a certain era also had a unique chemical smell due to the insulation used in the trunk.

I think I had a similar smell, which I always assumed was the seating. I haven't noticed it lately, but my car also smells mostly like the leather conditioner I used... I'd say for a solid year, my car had a distinct smell though. So I think it's not just you. That said I never thought it was off-putting.
Yeah it's just weird for a car. I think the color purple when i smell it. maybe a hint of grape? like i said not BAD.. just kind of.. weird? lol. definitely notice it more when i jump between cars.
BMWs tend to have a unique interior smell.. mercedes too.
i didn't notice the smell when the car was new. had a new car smell. but once that smell wore off, i noticed the underlying smell. things you don't realize until time passes and the car ages. they develop sort of a "patina" sometimes depending on how the parts were manufactured.

interesting you notice it too. Yeah it only really becomes evident when you drive something else long term. never noticed it til i got my 2nd lexus and parked the IS for a while. then got back in the IS. which has more of a neutral vinyl/plastics/new car (though faded) kind of smell.

Yeah the 3IS definitely has a distinct smell due to the seat materials. After about 10 months, I still notice it but it’s not a smell that I would say bothers me. If anything, it makes me feel like my IS is still new haha.
