Hi guys,

I bought a 2018 Is300 f sport back in August and i keep noticing. Releases more brake dust than even my old E63 AMG.

Is this normal? Would you recommend any other brake pads. Like Endless, TOM'S racing, TRD or Sard?

What's your experience with brake dust? Could it be my driving style or is this a. Common theme with this cars?

I am in the Akebono camp.

 

Factory pads are not typically focused on brake dust. TOMS Racing pads should do the job.

 

With pads you get a choice of great performance and more dust and noise, or less dust and noise but also less performance. It can't be both. It's a driver's choice. There is a TSB that will allow the dealer to change you to pads with less dust, but at a cost of performance.

I love the bite and performance of the Fsport pads, and washes are frequent for me. I hose off the front wheels once a week

 

What did you break?

 

 

Don't know, saw it here somewhere. It's not an "issue" per say, its just a preference and Lexus trying to keep people happy.

 

 

 

I also complained about the brake dust to my local Lexus dealer. They basically told me in the nicest way possible to F*** off lol

I ended up switching to Akebono and am happy that i dont have to clean my car every few days.

 

Quite normal. A sign of German engineering. It's not only normal, it's sought after. The best of the best have this "problem."

Porsche, AMG, ///M, etc.

 

Respectfully, I'd agree with them.

You pay for a car designed, marketed, and engineered to perform and you complain about brake dust. The whole idea behind the car is to challenge BMW supremacy and you can't do that with clean wheels.

 

I agree with you, but then you see the weight of the wheels, tire choice, etc and it makes a person wonder. I mean, they could have done a lot better in several areas...and for less money.

Forgive me, I was a car salesman for several years, so I'm very pessimistic about manufacturers. I know they make deals, and design certain parts to fail to pad their wallets in the service dept.

 

The wheels are industry standard in terms of strength, cost, weight etc. Same general weight as C Class, 3 Series etc. I've owned this class of car all my life among various makes. Just about the standard.

You can always do better but the costs and durability concerns are passed onto the consumer. Engineers strike a balance with the budget they are given. At the end of the day it's a business.

 

all cars nowadays are with in 1-3% of eachother in most metrics, among their thousands of parts, weights, specs, within their class. it's almost as if they collaborate. this is cause cars are mostly built with the same computers, suppliers, specs, etc. it's not like the old days where there was wide gaps in design and build. The industry has car building down.
