Default When do you replace the OEM brake pads?

Hi,

I have 2017 IS350 F-Sports and it's been 1year and 3month and it has 15k miles with stock OEM brake pads.
I started hearing a noise from the pads and I wanted to know is it time to replace the pads?

Thanks!

You can check them quite easily if you remove the wheel. I would say at 15k if you drive hard then it’s probably time. No way to tell unless you check them though as some people have gone 30k somehow with the stock pads lol.

I agree with flash5, also the fact that you start hearing noises could be the warning screech from the pad getting thin and you should at the least get it checked!

Hmm, brake noises could be from dust build up as well. I highly recommend you just inspect them yourself or get them inspected if you don’t want to do it. Like I said, you won’t know until you actually inspect.

If you hear the screech, It's time to replace, they are down to 2mm. Get rotors checked too

Modern cars like this probably dont have squealers like you guys are thinking.

light squealing is likely caused by buildup of brake dust and movement of the pads. If you are mechanically inclined, then it's easy enough to service the brakes and apply an anti squeal compound to the pads, and clean the seats or pins. Make sure you lube the pin and seats as well.

If it's like a metal on metal sound, most likely your pads are done. my oe pads had the wear indicator tabs that screeched when they were thin. Regardless there is no harm in taking it apart an cleaning everything. But if you're already taking it apart might as well check for minimum thickness on your rotors and see how much pad life you have left.

I think the minimum thickness for rotors was 27mm for the fronts and 26mm for the rear rotors.
Based off the assumption that you're in a RWD, the Front rotors is pn 43512-30350 and rear rotors is pn 42431-0w030

Front:

Rear:

on a side note, i do suggest you look into buying new rotors and pads as you will eventually have to replace them. If you get your brakes checked out by a mechanic and the conclusion is that they have to get replaced, you'd already have them in, and could probably get them installed right then and there, versus going back a second time to get them done.

I think alot of members use Akebono pads and oe blanks rotors. that's a low dust option.
I use stoptech rotors and carbotech pads.

Check my signature. Pads $60 every 12-15k.

Our cars in F Sport form have use high wear high performance German pads. They wear out fast but do the job well and are worth it.

I ditched my factory brake pads at 4K miles in the front because the F Sport pads are too dusty. The replacement pads are made by Sumitomo and they are low dust. The performance seems fine. They were at 75% remaining life at 20K miles.

I'm almost at 43k KM and surprisingly still on my original fsport pads and rotors.

At my last oil change they were still fine. I'm scheduled for an oil change in about 3 weeks. I'll have them looked at then.

It's weird because I drive my 350 hard sometimes...

I just looked at my car history since i bought it used to see if the brake pads have been replaced. apparently not, and it's now at 20k miles. i went ahead and bought akebono proact ceramic pads to replace all 4. this thread made me realize to check! i think at this many miles it's only a matter of time before the dealer says to replace them so i might as well do it now before it's next service.

I changed mine pretty quickly maybe around 40k, oem pads are horrible, they create so much brake dust. I switched to Akebono and 0 brake dust issues now, and the braking power feels better now. Also have them installed with Stoptech drilled rotors, great combo.
