I think Lexus overstyled the current IS interior, particularly the dash/console. Too sharp/flat/edgy. It won't age well. The GS interior is much nicer, more conservative, and will age gracefully. Conservative change/style has always been part of BMW design philosophy. You go too crazy with the creases and curves it dazzles you for a few years but won't look nice in a decade or more.

I strongly disagree, it is all about ergonomics, much better ergonomics in this IS than GS, I sat in both. Again, it is my opinion only.
Plus it reminds me of the airplane I fly - Cirrus, has similar pedestal/console layout. I happen to like my car to remind me of my airplane.
I don't like the car interior to look like a furniture.

I too, liked the IS interior and didn't find it overstyled at all. But I also don't find the GS interior down on ergonomics.
Now, about that Cirrus. Many years ago I did some design work on those. Fantastic airplane.

Agreed.. the current IS and RC both have unfortunate center consoles. I drove both cars but found that I simply could not live with the interiors of either. Both have gorgeous exteriors though. This new BMW 3 Series will be on my shortlist of potential new cars unless Lexus unleashes a stunner in the next 2 years.

The center console being the control stack, or the area with the cupholders and armrest?
I think the controls work fine, even if they are made of plastic and not metal or wood.
I will admit, on first impression I do like the new 3's interior a lot. Certainly lacks some of the personality of the current IS/RC interiors though. I strongly disagree with the sentiment that they are overdone.
The fact we even have a thread (quite lengthy) to share and discuss where do we put our phones just show that more thoughts are needed into the next IS's interior. Other than that, the interior build quality is good, seats are excellent, just need more ergo thought touches.
I hope the new IS supports wireless charging and designates a place for that. It looks like I’m gonna have to wait for the new IS to make my decision on my next car. Man 2 yrs is a while to wait, I hope they speed it up to 1 yr away instead.

Things imo that need to be addressed:
-More storage (center console storage is lacking
-Better cup holder design
-Wireless charging
-Better infotainment system (get rid of the 7' display on lower trims)
The infotainment being changed is a given. The other things wouldn't take much to improve on or add.
